Marion O. Basham, 91

Marion O. Basham, 91, passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, October 30th with his family by his side. The Richardsville native was the son of the late Herbert Evan Basham and Christine Miller Basham. In addition to his parents Mr. Basham was preceded in death by his son, Steven O. Basham; one brother, Eldon O. “Pete” Basham and one sister, Aleene Young.

Mr. Basham was a farmer and a truck driver for over 40 years and belonged to the Local 89 Teamsters Union. He was a Free Mason, and a 65-year member of Elijah Upton Masonic Lodge 828, A and FM. Marion was an avid train enthusiast.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Frances Geraldine Vanzant Basham; one daughter, Sharon L. Logsdon (Jim); one son, Gary N. Basham (Carolyn); six grandchildren, Shane Basham (Melanie), Shelby Basham (Jessica), Kyle Basham (J.R.), Cody Basham (Summer), Nick Logsdon (Chrissy) and Ashley Kinser (Josh); thirteen great grandchildren; two nieces and one daughter-in-law, Phyllis Basham.

Funeral services for Mr. Basham will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 4 at  Mt. Pleasant Church of Christ  with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at the Mt. Pleasant Church of Christ Cemetery.

Additional visitation will be held on Friday, November, 3 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home.

Brian Tosh Skaggs, age 43

Brian Tosh Skaggs, age 43 of Oklahoma City, OK, departed this life on Thursday, October 19, 2023.  Brian was born on April 17, 1980 to Donald and Shirley Tosh Skaggs, whom survive. 

Brian obtained a degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and worked in recent years in construction with his friend, Brian Eischeid.  Brian had a contagious smile, was so charismatic and would light up a room with his presence.  He was adventurous and dearly loved being outdoors either fishing, hunting or playing disc golf.  His greatest passion was spending time with his children, that he adored.

Besides his parents, Don and Shirley, he leaves to honor his memory— his precious children, Catherine Elizabeth “Cate”, Mackenzi Ruth and Sawyer Tosh Skaggs; his siblings, Donald Moran “Trey” Skaggs, III (Joanne) and Kellie Skaggs Meeks (Brian), along with six nieces and a nephew.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Donald and Dorothy Skaggs, Dennis and Helen Tosh and niece, Madison Grace Meeks. 

Interment will be in Pleasant Union Church Cemetery.

Arnetha Carroll Dunn, 70, of Bowling Green passed away Oct 22, 2023, in Goodlettsville, TN from stage four metastatic lung cancer. 

The Edmonson County native was a retired Certified Nursing Assistant and a Baptist. She was a daughter of the late Charlie Ova Carroll and Nova Duvall Carroll and the wife of the late Walter Dunn. She was preceded in death by 9 siblings; Jerry Ovie Carroll, Arvin Dale Carroll, Norma Jean Carroll, Kenneth Wayne Carroll, Anthony Carroll, Kaye Carroll McClure, Jeff Carroll, Terry “Grasshopper” Carroll, and David Carroll.
 
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, 225 Scattersville Road, Portland, TN  37148. Visitation will take place after 10:00 AM Thursday.
 
Surviving are a son, Patrick Carroll (Katy); three granddaughters, Ashton Marie, Adalyn Grace and Andrea Gail all of Independence; a daughter, Ruby Ann;  three sisters, Donna Carroll Graham of Goodlettsville, Janet Carroll Arnold of Bowling Green and Patricia Carroll Coffman of Glasgow.

Susan Renee “Susie” Vincent, 56, of Bee Spring passed away Oct. 21, 2023 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.
 
The Paoli, IN native was a 1985 graduate of ECHS, a member and Sunday school teacher at Potter’s Hope Ministries, a volunteer at Kyrock Elemetary School for 30 years, a team leader for Edmonson Co. 4-H Camp, Was secretary/treasurer for Edmonson County Homemakers, past president for Bee Spring Homemakers, past president for Brownsville Homemakers; was KEHA secretary/treasurer for 30 years and was an Edmonson County Election Official for many years. She was a daughter of the late Homer Vincent and Mary York Vincent.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Key Cemetery. Visitation will take place 10:00 AM-8:00 PM Tuesday and after 9:00 AM Wednesday.
 
Surviving are two brothers, Frank Phipps and Shannon Vincent both of Bee Spring; a sister, Shelby Butler (Frank) of Cecilia; two nieces, Brittany (Joseph Taylor) and Autumn (Alex Enzweiler); Several aunts and uncles; and many cousins.

Letha Mae Pierce Williams, Age 82

Letha Mae Pierce Williams, age 82, of Cave City, KY departed this life on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 in Glasgow. The Elizabethtown native was born on August 8, 1941 to the late Coy and Julia Pierce. She was married to Ron Williams, who also preceded her in death.


Letha was a former owner of Pier 19 and a member of Salem Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time outdoors golfing, camping, and RVing. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren.


She leaves to honor her memory— her sons, Rodney Williams of Cave City and Jeff Williams (Jamie) of Glasgow; grandchildren, Rodney Williams, Jr. (Peanut), Jackson Williams and Julia Williams; great-grandsons, Cayson Williams, Chandler Williams and Easton Poynter; sisters, Nancy Ennis and Mary Ella Tabb and a brother, Coy Pierce, Jr. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Skylar Williams.

Connie Joyce Willis Vincent, 57, of Sweeden passed away Oct. 18, 2023 at University of Louisville Hospital.


The Grayson County native was a 1984 graduate of Grayson County High School and was a Walmart sales associate. She was the daughter of the late James Conrad Willis and Joyce Whobrey Willis.



Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Vincent Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM Saturday.
 
Surviving are her husband, Darrell Lee Vincent; a daughter, Jessica Vincent of Sweeden; a son, Joey Vincent (Flor Serrano) of Radcliff; two brothers, Donnie Willis (Sandy) of Millwood and Jamie Willis of Sweeden; and three grandchildren, Mateo Vincent, Eli Vincent and Landon Tritchler.

Marsha Woodcock, age 72 of Bee Spring, departed this life on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. The Edmonson County native was born on December 20, 1950 to the late Noel and Wilma Vincent Woodcock.

She was a homemaker, a member of Assembly of God Church and a member of Edmonson County Homemakers. She enjoyed drawing, bingo and being pampered.

She leaves to honor her memory— sister, Jill Holcomb (Anthony) of Bee Spring; nephews, Zachary Holcomb and Taylor Holcomb; nieces, Joy Bryant, Rebekkah Masterson (Aaron), Amber McDonald and Tess Jones (David); several great nephews and nieces. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Jana Bosely.   

Interment will be in Vincent Cemetery in Bee Spring.

Junior Brooks, age 72 of Lindseyville, peacefully departed this life at his home on October 14, 2023. The Edmonson County native was born on May 15, 1951 to the late Osie and Edna Meredith Brooks.  He was married to his loving and devoted wife for 53 years, Charlotte Ann Wilcher Brooks. 

Junior was a member of Leitchfield First Baptist Church. He was former employee at Woodcraft Industries.    

Besides his wife, he leaves to honor his memory— his children, Kristy Brooks Hall (Todd) of Shelbyville, Jonathan Brooks (Angel) of Mobile, AL and Elizabeth Brooks Wright (Joseph) of Bowling Green; grandchildren, Daniel Hall, Abigail Hall, Jonathan “J.B.” Brooks, Jr., Samuel Hall, Tyler Olivia Wright, and Benjamin Hall; great–grandson, Jonas Davis; siblings, Reuben Brooks (Anita), Faye Minton (Dennis), and Chiquetta Dillion (Virgil), and several nieces and nephews. John Raymond Samples, age 48 of Brownsville, passed away on October 11, 2023 at Norton’s Hospital in Louisville, surrounded by his loved ones.  The Edmonson County native was born on June 4, 1975 to the late Allen Lee Samples, Sr, and Francis Carwile Samples, who survives. 


John was an outdoorsman, and worked in landscaping.  In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He was of the Baptist faith, and had attended Brownsville General Baptist Church. 

Besides his mother, Francis, he leaves to honor his memory —
his children, Leah Lee (Caleb) and Christopher J. Case (Christina); his girlfriend, Tina Summers; his siblings, Patty Bell (Jimmy), Dorothy Toliver (Billy), Janet Wright (Donnie), Allen Samples, Jr., and Lois Samples; nieces and nephews, Crystal Higgins (Larry, Jr.), Stephanie Samples (Jerry), Rodger Cook, Jr. (Tiffany) and Charlie Samples (Courtney); great nieces and nephews, Alivia Higgins, Kaile Lynn Collins, Ariel Cook, Trenton Stewart and Jaxon Cook; his beloved pet, Whitey Meredith Samples, along with several other extended family members.  He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Gabrielle Samples; his brother, Eugene Samples; grandfather, Raymond Carwile and great-nephew, Gaberile Cook.

Alfred “A.J.” Jones, Jr., age 92, of Glasgow, KY peacefully departed this life at his home on Wednesday, October 11, 2023.  The Barren County native was born on March 21, 1931 to the late Alfred Jones, Sr. and Zada Wishard Jones. He was married to his loving wife of twelve years, Bonnie Jones.


A.J. loved his church family at Northtown United Baptist Church, where he was saved on May 9, 2017, and became a member on June 3, 2017. He was a loving husband, grandfather and great-grandfather.  A.J. always wore a smile, and thoroughly enjoyed visiting and bowling with his friends.


Besides his wife, Bonnie, he leaves to honor his memory— his children, Alfred Jones, Jr. (Pam), Larry Jones, Robert Ray Jones (Linda), Sharon Robinson, Vickie Patterson (David) and Melissa Deaton (Robert) all of Indianapolis, IN; step children, Jim Bob Sloan (Angie) of Horse Cave, Becky Cline (John) of Cave City; nineteen grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; forty-seven great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren and sister, Betty Burton, of Bowling Green. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by, his first wife, Mary Jones; his children, Donald “Donny” Jones and Darlene Russell, and siblings, Jessie and Roscoe Jones, Alma Jean Sheldon, Helene Louise Herron, Berda Katherine Jackson, Viola “Vickie” Vincent and Carolyn Faye Jones.

Johnny Allen Vincent, 67, of Bee Spring passed away Oct. 11, 2023 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.

The Edmonson County native was a 1974 graduate of ECHS and a truck driver for Pike Electric. He was a son of the late Willie H. Vincent and Eula Carroll Vincent. He was preceded in death by six siblings, Betty Humphrey, Pat Tarrence, Don Vincent, Judy Childress, Marilyn Vincent and Janet Vincent.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday at Gravil Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM.

Surviving are two sisters, Doris West of Jeffersonville, IN and Frances Woodcock of Scottsville; a brother, David L. Vincent (Sue) of Scottsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Alice Mae Madison, age 83 of Macon, GA, peacefully departed this life with her family by her side on Thursday, October 12, 2023.  The Edmonson County, KY native was born on July 20, 1940 to the late Guy Lindle and Edith Webb.  She was married to her best friend and husband of sixty-one years, Gerald A. Madison, until they were parted by his death on July 11, 2017.


Alice Mae and Gerald moved their young family to Georgia in 1979 to continue his career with Brown & Williamson.  While Gerald progressed in his career, Alice Mae worked as a housewife and mother, and lovingly cared for her family.  She was the true definition of a virtuous woman and help mate.  Alice Mae, Gerald and other family members were charter members of Barfield United Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful member until her health began to fail. They dearly loved their family, but above all, they loved the Lord. 


She leaves to honor her memory— her children, Gerald Wayne Madison (Pam) of Macon, GA, Brian Madison (Brenda) of Minnesota and Regina Madison, of Macon, GA; six grandchildren, Amanda Madison Roland, Crystal M. Gross (Eric), Gerald W. Madison, Jr. (Angie), Brian Keith Madison, Joshua J. Joyce Juanita Walden, age 84 of Cave City, peacefully departed this life at her home on Monday, October 9, 2023.  The Barren County native was born on October 18, 1938 to the late Charles and Anice Douglas Slaughter.  She was married to Carl Walden, who preceded her in death.


Joyce was a member of Rolling Hills United Baptist Church and was a employee of Sorenson Manufacturing.  


She leaves to honor her memory-- her daughter, Pam Walden Staples (James) of Cave City; granddaughter, Dana Wells of Cave City; great-granddaughter, Chelsey Sherfey (Dustin) of Summer Shade; great-great grandsons, Wyatt Sherfey and Waylon Sherfey and sister, Judy Duvall (Tom). She was also preceded in death by her sister, Janet Cook.


Interment will be in Walden Cemetery.

Charles Raymond Allen, Age 77

Charles Raymond Allen, age 77, of Cave City, departed this life on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at his residence.  The Larue County native was born on June 18, 1946 to the late Ruel and Catherine Druien Allen.  He was married to his best friend and soul mate of forty-eight years, Carla Whitaker Allen, who survives. 


Charles was a U.S. Army veteran, and served during the Vietnam War era.  He was  a former educator with the Hart County School District, and was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church.  Charles loved his community and served for many years as a Barren County Magistrate.  He was also a member of Cave City Chamber of Commerce, Park City Lions Club and Cave City Bear Wallow Lodge #231 F&AM.  He enjoyed farming and raising his cattle, tobacco and strawberries. 


Besides his wife, Carla, he leaves to honor his memory— his children, Benjamin Druien Allen (Jennifer) of Lexington, Madie Allen Doyle (Jason) of Cave City and Laura Lee Allen Kazee (Chris) of Worthville; grandchildren, William Whitaker Allen, Henry Druien Allen, Matthew Bradley Doyle, Abbey Catherine Doyle, Addison Christin Kazee and Carter Morris Kazee; siblings, Gus Allen (Rita), Margaret Whitlock (Asa) and Larry Allen (Sharon), along with several nieces and nephews.  He was also preceded in death by his brother, Harold Allen.

Dorothy Jean Skaggs, age 102

Dorothy Jean Skaggs, age 102, of Fairborn, OH went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 2, 2023.  She was born in London, Kentucky on February 17, 1921 to the late George and Susan Maupin.  She was married to her loving husband of seventy-three years, Donald Skaggs, until they were parted by his death on January 8, 2016. 

Dorothy worked at Rike’s Department Store, along with her sister, Effie, during World War II.  She spent the rest of her life being a devoted housewife, supporter of her husband and caring for their two children, Donald and Jeffrey.  Her favorite pastime was playing the piano. 

She was a devoted servant of her Lord Jesus and a longtime member at Fairborn First Baptist Church.  She will be dearly missed by all who loved her. 

She leaves to honor her memory— her two sons, Donald Skaggs (Shirley) and Jeffrey Skaggs; grandchildren, Donald “Trey” Skaggs (Joanne), Brian Skaggs, Kellie Meeks (Brian) and Joshua Skaggs, eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.  Besides her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her sisters, Cecil, Gertrude, Adelade and Effie; brothers, Delbert, Harry and George and a great-granddaughter, Madison.

Barbara Ann England Sego, 79, of Brownsville passed away Sept. 30, 2023 at her home. 

Born Nov. 28, 1943 in Bowling Green, she was a retired Bremner Biscuit Co. employee and a member of Silent Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Oscar England and Lilly Butt England and the wife of the late Travis Wendell Sego. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Vickie Sparks; five brothers; and two sisters.
 
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Hawkins Cemetery. Visitation will take place 3-7 PM Tuesday and after 9:00 AM Wednesday.
 
Surviving are two daughters, Sonja Jacobs (Paul) of Brownsville and Cindy Sego of Mammoth Cave; a son Travis Sego (Stephen) of Orlando, FL; a sister, Mary Nunn of Indianapolis; five grandchildren, Amy Davis, Frenda Sparks, Christian Sparks, Drew Massey, and Tyler Massey; and eight great-grandchildren.
