Margaret Vincent, age 89, of Fulton,KY died November 27, 2017 at Tennova Healthcare – Volunteer Martin in Martin, TN.
 
She was of the Baptist faith and had been a department manager for Peebles Department Store in Jacksonville, NC.  She moved from Maysville, NC and had lived in Fulton for the past 25 years.
 
She is survived by two sons Dan Collins of Dayton, TN and Ken Vincent of Fulton, KY, two daughters Ladonna V. Darby of Charleston, WV and Catherine Wyatt of Fulton, KY; 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and a sister Jean Cline of Lakeland, FL.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband Leroy Vincent, her parents John L. and Vesta Mounts Collins, a brother Buddy Collins and a sister Virginia Hicks.
 
A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, December 1 at the Bee Spring Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery near Brownsville, KY. Visitation will be at the Hornbeak Funeral Chapel from 5-8 pm on Thursday.
 
Hornbeak Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

​J.B. Doyle, age  82, of  Park City, KY passed away  Friday, November  17, 2017 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.   He was the son of the late  Yancy Clay Doyle and Alma Martin Doyle and was married  63 years to Wanda Adwell Doyle.  

J.B. Doyle, age  82, of  Park City, KY passed away  Friday, November  17, 2017 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.   He was born on August 5, 1935 to the late Yancy Clay Doyle and Alma Martin Doyle.  He was married sixty-three years to Wanda Adwell Doyle, who survives.  

J.B. was a farmer and a greens keeper for Park Mammoth.  He was a  member of  Cedar Springs United Baptist Church. 

Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Kendall Bradford Doyle (Janel) of Bowling Green; two daughters, Rebecca Lowe (Clayton) of Smiths Grove and Betty Vibbert (Dennis) of Park City; two brothers, Melvin Doyle (Louise) of Cedar Springs and Gerry Doyle (Rometta) of Lindseyville; four grandchildren, Michael Lowe (Becky), Brad Graves (Gina), John Tyler Doyle and Kimber Doyle;  eight great grandchildren; two great–great grandchildren;  several nieces, nephews and friends.  He was preceded in death by one sister, Loretta Brooks and two infant grandchildren, Kyle and Caleb Doyle.     

Interment will be in  Lambert Cemetery.

​​Bro. Thomas Meredith, age 58 of Custer, KY, departed this life on Thursday, November 16, 2017.  The Grayson County native was born on November 8, 1959 to the late Wanda Mae Alvey Meredith and Ira Meredith, of Bee Spring.  He was married to Sherry Bruner Meredith, who survives. 

Bro. Thomas was a retired salesman with Frito Lay, and currently employed with Pepperidge Farms.  He was a member of Jock United Baptist Church, and the pastor of Anneta United Baptist Church, Snap Missionary Baptist Church, and Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church. 

Besides his wife and father, he leaves to honor his memory— two sons, Josh Meredith and Justin Meredith, both of Custer; one daughter, Jessica Meredith of Custer; three grandchildren, Addison Meredith, Cailyn Meredith and Colten Meredith and two sisters, Teresa Brooks (Monty) of Bee Spring and Kathy Decker (Elroy) of Anneta.  He was preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Decker and Wanda Lee Lane. 

Interment will be in Jock Cemetery.

Rev. Lowell Davis, age 93 of Cave City, KY, departed this life on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at The Medical Center at Caverna. The Edmonson County native was born on May 7, 1924 to the late Elbert and Mossie Stice Davis. He was married to his best friend of fifty-seven years, Wilma Brooks Davis, who preceded him in death.

Rev. Lowell was a retired carpenter. He was a faithful member of Servant Valley United Baptist Church, and the oldest minister of the Green River Association of United Baptist. Through the years, he pastored several churches in Central Kentucky and the Louisville area. He truly loved southern gospel singing and was the Past President of the Ohio Valley Singing Convention.

He leaves to honor his memory— three daughters, Joyce Hall of Shepherdsville, Judy Whittle of Elizabethtown and Jo Anna Dennison of Cave City; eight grandchildren, Cindy Fondren (Michael), Joe Hall (Lisa), Pam Carter (John), Beth Renfro (Dale), Amy Thornhill (Bobby), Laura Cassidy (Todd), Angie Whittle-Douthitt (Robert) and LeeAnna Hayes (Scottie); two sisters, Eva Lee Sego (Herman) of Louisville and Cora Meredith of Bowling Green; twenty great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, James Lowell Davis, Jr.

Interment will be in Cave City Cemetery.

​Betty Jean Grimes, 83 of Bowling Green died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017.

The Warren county resident was a daughter of the late Allison and WIllie Betty Nixon Austin, preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years Fred Grimes, Jr. and her brother, Billy Joe Lawing. She was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and a long time member of Penns Chapel Church of Christ. 

Her survivors include her five children, Kay Fulcher, Karen Wright (Jim), Kent Grimes (Melissa Ann), Kelvin Grimes (Betty), and Katrina Carter (Darrel); 14 grandchildren, Chris Fulcher (Amy), Misty Ragan (Ron), Laurie Wright, Andy Wright (Dawn), Wesley Grimes, Alan Grimes (Melissa), Kevin Grimes (Heather), William Basham (Britany), Jannah Grimes, Dusty Grimes (Theresa), Daniel Grimes, Mandy Grimes, Cassie Faulkner (Tim), Jared Carter (Madeline); 24 great grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Juanita Lawing; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service 11 a.m. Friday at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel with burial in Penns Chapel Cemetery. Visitation 3-8 p.m. Thursday and 9-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Kathleen Rose "Kathy" Haney, 70, of Columbia passed away at 5:45 PM Nov. 12, 2017 in Mammoth Cave.
 
The Springfield, MA native was a homemaker. She was a daughter of the late Frederick Scott and Ethel Mae Kemple Scott Ogoley.
 
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Shady Land Church of Christ Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:00 AM-1:00 PM Tuesday.
 
Surviving are two sons, Ramey Watkins of Edmonton and Cory Haney of Shepherdsville; a daughter, Shelly Ann Grady of Leitchfield; four brothers, Wayne Ogoley of Mammoth Cave, William Ogoley and Fred Scott both of Massachusetts and Cliff Scott of South Carolina; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Michael Lee "Bubba" Sowders, JR., 27

​Michael Lee "Bubba" Sowders Jr., 27, of Roundhill passed away at 6:33 PM Nov. 5, 2017 in Greenwood, IN.

The Edmonson County native was a 2008 graduate of Edmonson County High School and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and wrestling. He was the son of Michael Lee "Boskey" Sowders Sr. (Regina) of Brownsville and Linda Sue Moon Hogan (Ricky) of Roundhill, who survive. He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Hayward "Sam" Sowders.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday at Red Hill General Baptist Church, where he was a member, with burial to follow in Red Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-8 PM Wednesday and after 10 AM-12:15 PM Thursday at Gravil Funeral Home.
​

Also surviving are a sister, Felicia Sowders of Roundhill; paternal grandmother, Linda Sowders of Roundhill; maternal grandparents, Earnest Moon Sr. and Margie Moon of Ollie; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

David James Durbin, 68

​David James Durbin, 68, of Brownsville passed away Nov. 6, 2017 at his home.
 
The Edmonson County native was a heavy equipment operator and a member of Bowling Green Praise & Worship. He was a son of the late Willard James Durbin and Mary Elizabeth Brooks Newman. He was preceded in death by two sons, Allen Durbin and Charlotte Durbin; two sisters, Hope Durbin and Ramona McGrew; and two brothers, Willard Allen Durbin and James Kelly Durbin.
 
Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 PM Thursday at Gravil Funeral Home. Visitation will be 2-6 PM Thursday. Burial will be in Gravil Cemetery.
 
Surviving are three daughters, Felicia Durbin (Kyle) of Bee Spring and Virginia Johnson (Tim) and Shannon Meredith (Dustin) both of Chalybeate; three sons, Nick Durbin (Lindsay) of Chalybeate, Adam Durbin (Billie) of Brownsville and Michael Meredith of Stillwater, OK; two sisters, Angie Vincent of Pig and Valerie McGrew of Brownsville; a brother, Eric Durbin (Lynn) of Bee Spring; 14 grandchildren; and a great great grandchild.

​Jacob E. “J.E.” Cassady, age 88 of  New Grove, KY, departed this life on Saturday, November  4, 2017 at  Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY.  The Edmonson County native was born on  October 11, 1929 to the late Paul Cassady and Lola Ann Doyle Cassady.  He was married to Cleota Hogan Cassady, who preceded him in death. 

J.E. was a retired  machine operator for Phillip Morris Tobacco Co.  He was a member of  New Grove Missionary Baptist Church and Parkland Masonic Lodge # 638 F&AM. 

He leaves to honor his memory— two daughters, Donna Highland (Larry) of Clarksville, IN and Sheila Stallings (Thomas)  of  Louisville, KY; one brother, Jimmy Cassady (Beatrice) of Lindseyville, KY; two sisters,  Lavenia Bledsoe and Wanda Douglas (Bill) both of New Grove, KY; six grandchildren, Travis Carter (Juanita), Troy Carter (Jess), Anthony Wilson, Crystal Caudill, Bobby Wilson and Heather McCormick (Chris); twenty-two great grandchildren and four great- great grandchildren.

Interment will be in Midway Church Cemetery.

​Mary Gibbons, age 81, of Brownsville, KY passed away Friday, November 3, 2017 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. She was born on December 25, 1925 to the late Paul William Brown and Ruby K. Updyke, and was married to the late Kermit Gibbons.

Mary retired as a seamstress from the Brownsville sewing factory. She attended Cedar Spring Community Church.

She was survived by three brothers, Jim Brown (Bonnie) of Danville, IN, Roy Brown of Andrew, IN and Rick Brown of Monrovia, IN; four sisters, Pauline Keown of Camby, IN, Bessie Bingham (Ed) of Sadler, TX, Susie Thomas (Maxie) of Albany, KY and Kathlene Gibson of Albany, KY; one sister-in-law, Nora Brown of Noblesville, IN and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister- Bill, Herbert, Eugene, Keith, Garland Lee, Willard and Christine Cook.

Interment will be in Honaker Cemetery.

Maxine Pile Higgs, 89, of Brownsville passed away at 7:50 PM Nov. 2, 2017 at her home. 

​The Breckinridge County native was a medical assistant for Dr. S.E Farmer, a supervisor for Kellwood and Brownsville Manufacturing, a secretary at Kyrock School and a member of Asphalt Church of Christ. She was the daughter of the late Francis E. Pile and Lillie Lyon Pile and the wife of the late Emil Higgs. She was preceded in death by a son, Alan York Higgs.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Brownsville Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-9 PM Sunday and after 9 AM Monday.

Surviving are three daughters, Rebecca York of Bayonet Point, FL, and Amy Farmer and Nancy Higgs both of Brownsville; two granddaughters, Rachel Farmer Wilson (Bill) and Shelly Farmer Herrington (Jason); two great grandsons, Nicholas Wilson and Michael Wilson; and her devoted canine, Duke.

George Christian "Chris" Robinson, 49, of Wingfield passed away at 11:54 AM Nov. 1, 2017 at Commonwealth Regional Specialty Hospital in Bowling Green.
 
The Floyd County native was a phlebotomist at Ross Medical Education Center and a member of Brownsville Missionary Baptist Church. He was a son of George E. Robinson and Marie Scarberry Robinson of Wingfield, who survive.
 
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Brownsville Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 PMFriday, 2-6 PM Saturday and after 12:00 PM Sunday.
 
Surviving in addition to his parents are a sister, Sherry Hudson (Kelly) of Wingfield; a brother, Billy Robinson (Mercedes) of Columbia, TN; four aunts, Darlene Chapman (Donnie), Brenda Laferty (Charles), Alice Johnson (Steve) and Sandra Robinson (Bud); an uncle, Bill Robinson (Vennessa); three nieces, Amanda Lawson, Allyce Robinson and Amalie Robinson; and two nephews, Chris Wilburn and Blake Wilburn.
