Larry Dale Higgins, Sr., age 66 of Brownsville, departed this life on Monday, November 29, 2021 at The Medical Center of Bowling Green. The Jefferson County native was born on January 7, 1955 to the late Bernard W. Higgins I and Edith Ann Higgins. He was married to Lisa Higgins, who survives.
Larry retired as a machinist from Industrial Carbide Saw and Tool Corporation, and attended Bible Wesleyan Methodist Church. Although he was little in statue, his heart was his biggest feature. He loved racing and making memories at the race track and watching his Louisville Cardinals. Virginia Ruth Keith Alexander, 82, entered into rest on November 20, 2021, at home in Brownsville. She was born January 14, 1939, to the late Veachel and Gertrude Keith. She was married to the late Linden Alexander.
Though she left school to begin working at age 14, Virginia owned several successful businesses during her life, including Pig General Store, Park City Truck Stop, and Virginia’s Frame Shop, and managed Top Value Redemption Centers in Ky and Georgia. Virginia Ruth worked hard and fiercely loved her children and grandchildren, her 10 brothers and sisters and their spouses, and many nieces and nephews and friends. Her home was opened many times to help out family and others who needed a place to live. She enjoyed decorating, repairing and landscaping her homes, cooking for her family and allowed no obstacle to get in her way when she wanted to learn some new skill for home or work. She was member of Brownsville Missionary Baptist Church. Ruby worked for years as a cosmetologist, and owned and operated House of Beauty. She had also worked in the hair salon at Wellington Parc, and currently managed the Cal Turner Rehab and Specialty Hospital Hair Salon. In her later years, she was an instructor at her daughter’s cosmetology school, Regina Webb Academy. Ruby was a member of Pleasant Union United Baptist Church. Ruby had such a zest for life, and was always in for a good laugh. She loved her family immensely, and they shared wonderful memories with each other in church, at her little beauty shop, on road trips, out to eat, shopping or just simply being together. She didn’t stress over daily worries, but instead enjoyed all life’s simple pleasures. Besides her husband, she leaves to honor her memory--three children, Regina Webb (Brent) of Bowling Green, Steve Meredith and Cliff Meredith both of Lindseyville; three grandchildren, Brian Webb (Angie), Meredith Thornton (Ben) and Jordan Renick (David) all of Bowling Green; seven great-grandchildren, Broderick Farley, Ben and Blake Webb, Cade and Ainsley Thornton, Nash and Beau Renick; one brother, Jerry Dallas Skaggs (Colleen) of Louisville and a host of friends, nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Haskel, Leroy and Wallace Skaggs, Catherine Overcast and Helen Webb. The Edmonson County native was a concrete finisher, a US Army World War II veteran and attended Decker Holiness Church and Long Branch Church. He was a son of the late Pete Decker and Rena Meredith Decker and the husband of the late Dorothy Meredith Decker. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Seward Decker, Trenton Decker, Leon Decker, Eulas Decker and Darrell Decker; a great grandson, Silas Brauner; and four sisters-in-law, Jewell Decker, Ovalene Decker, Anna Marie Decker and Norma Jean Decker. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at Gravil Funeral Home after which burial with military honors will take place in John Stevenson Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-7 PM Wednesday and after 9:00 AM Thursday. Surviving are a daughter, Patty S. Decker of Kennesaw, GA; five sons, Danny J. Decker (Marilyn) and Don Decker (Lisa) both of Brownsville, Dallas Decker of Morganfield, Jimmy Decker (Gail) of Elizabethtown and Kenny Decker (Dawn) of Bee Spring; two brothers, D.C. Decker of Bee Spring and Vanco Decker of Peoria, IL; a sister-in-law, Willodean Decker of Bee Spring; ten grandchildren, Cindy Vincent, Brian Decker, Ricky Decker, Veronica Meredith, Julie Patton, Melissa Gegenheimer, Joey Decker, Collin Hasty, Ethan Decker and Aaron Decker; two step granddaughters, Melissa and Ashley; 20 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Lonard Hazelip Webb, age 83 of Mammoth Cave peacefully departed this life on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at his residence. The Edmonson County native was born on September 8, 1938 to the late Oren H. and Sybil James Webb.
Lonard was saved as a young boy and was a conductor of prayer meetings at Sweeden Baptist Church at age ten. He has been a devout Christian and devoted member of Union Light Missionary Baptist Church since February 4, 1973. He is an alumni of Western Kentucky University, where he played his favorite past-time, basketball. Along with being the Wildcats number one fan, he once loved to fish, hunt and race cars at Beech Bend. He loved to laugh and was a friend to many. His motto was, “if you want friends, show yourself friendly,” and that is what he did as he would wave at every passerby. He loved to learn and most of all teach. He was an elementary school teacher at many of Edmonson County’s local schools– Kyrock, Brownsville, and Sunfish to name a few. He married the love of his life, Estelene Smith Webb, on June 18, 1960, and since has serenaded her and the community with his beautiful poetry. They together were the owners of Webb’s Grocery for fifty years, where he loved to serve our community. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Besides his dearest wife, Estelene, he leaves to honor his memory— his daughter whom he cherished, Lonna Sheree Webb; two grandchildren, Lonnie Jenkins and Markeeta Hill (Ray); three great-grandchildren, Lilly Jenkins, Preston Hill and Delilia Jenkins, whom he greatly adored. Furthermore, he has four siblings, Grace Dean Lashley (James Gilbert), Marvin Hal Webb (Linda), Brenda Sue Hill (Richard) and Evelyn Shrader (Larry). He was also preceded in death by one brother, Emerson Webb. Interment will be in Union Light Church Cemetery.
