Elizabeth Hughes Alexander, age 80 of Glasgow, KY, was called home on Sunday, December 27, 2015, in Glasgow. The Hart county native was born on October 3, 1935 to the late Veachel Hughes and the late Lou Ann Wilson Hughes. She was married to the late Royce Lavon Alexander for 62 years. 

She was a homemaker and a member of Basil Chapel United Baptist Church. 

She is survived by two sons, Donnie Alexander (Debbie) of Glasgow, KY, Jim Alexander (Jo) of Knob Lick, KY; one daughter, Brenda Compton (fiancé Gary Jones) of Glasgow, KY; one brother, Charles Hughes (Nelda) of Glasgow; one sister, Joyce Doyle (Stanley) of Cave City; one son-in-law, Dennis Hatcher of Cave City, KY; seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon Hatcher; two grandsons, Donnie Wayne Alexander and Gary Emmitt; one brother, Haskel Hughes and one nephew, Barry Hughes.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

James Roger "Bud" Wilson, 64 of Bowling Green died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2015 at his residence.

The Warren County native was a son of the late Carson and Edith Cowles Wilson and is preceded in death by a grandson, Thomas Young.  He was a farmer, employed at Holley Carburetor for 18 years and a heavy equipment operator for the Department of Transportation for 20 years. He was a member of Shadyland Church of Christ.

His survivors include his wife Glenna Wilson; children, Jamie Young; Mollie Mellencamp (Nathen); and Richard Wilson (Joanna); two grandchildren, Deborah Young and Matthew Mellencamp; one sister, Jessie Wilson; two brothers, Charles H. Wilson and Leonard V. Wilson;; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service 1 p.m. Tuesday at Shadyland Church of Christ with burial in Shadyland Church Cemetery.  Visitation 4-8 p.m. Monday at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

David L. Penrose, I, age 85, of Brownsville, KY passed away Thursday, December 24, 2015 at his residence. The Louisville native was born  July 19, 1930, the son of the late  Bernard and Alma Headley Penrose. He was married to the late Bettie Kirby Penrose.

He was a  foreman for GTE, a Korean War Marine Veteran, attended the Edmonson Co. Senior Activity Center and was a  member of Community Church at Cedar Springs.

He is survived by one son, David Penrose, II (Jeannette) of Belfair, WA; four daughters, Katrina Brannan (David) of Quail Run, CA, Delonna McKie (Greg) of Riverside, CA and Tosca Elsalem (Johnny Hale) and Felicia Schmidt (Robert) both of Brownsville; two brothers, Herold Penrose (Carolyn) and Melvin Penrose (Mary Jo ) both of Texas; eleven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Matthew Manning.

Interment will be in Brownsville Cemetery.

​Hubert J. Poteet, 74 of Bowling Green died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015 at Signature Healthcare.

He was a son of the late Johnny J. and Ruby Logsdon Poteet and is preceded in death by a great grandson Cameron Drake Poteet. He was a carpenter and a member of Northside Freewill Baptist Church.

His survivors include his two sons, Ricky Poteet (Robin) and Scott Poteet (Angie); his former wife and mother of his children, Brenda Poteet; seven grandchildren, Dustin Poteet, Brandon Poteet, Ryan Wells, Dustin Lindsey, Ricky Wells, Jr. , April Wells, Anna Poteet; seven great grandchildren; two brothers, Joy Poteet (Frankie) and Ronnie Poteet (Julie); several nieces and nephews.

Rev. Roy Hogan, 87, of  Brownsville, KY passed away Saturday, December 26 2015 in Bowling Green.  The Edmonson Co. native was born on March 6, 1928 in
Lindseyville to the late Rev. Willie E. Hogan and the late Audie Browning Hogan. He was the husband of the late Jenell White Hogan. 

Roy was a retired molder for International Harvester. He was ordained on December 15, 1956 and pastored sixteen churches and was a member of Midway United Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by three sons, Rev. Dan Hogan (Glenda) of Horse Cave, Ricky Hogan (Gail), Rodney Hogan both of Brownsville; one brother, Willie Victor Hogan (Lois) of Bowling Green; three sisters, Christine Vincent of Bardstown, Chloie Roof of Mt. Washington, Nancy Hogan of Bardstown; five grandchildren, Troy Hogan (Shelly), David Hogan, Crystal Elmore (Chris), Malena Hogan, Lance Hogan (Jennifer) and one great granddaughter, Megan Hogan.

Travis C. Lamar, 75, of  Bee Spring, KY departed this life on Thursday, December 24, 2015 at his residence. The Edmonson County native was born June 11, 1940 to the late Ben and Norma Bullock Lamar and was married to Barbara Manion Lamar, whom survives. 

He was a retired carpenter for Nancy Smith Construction and a member of Bee Spring Missionary Baptist Church.   

He is also survived by two sons, Danny Lamar of Modesto, CA and Travis Lamar of Bee Spring; four daughters, Leasa Lamar of Atwater, CA, Wendy Lamar of Stockton, CA, Dulana “Dee” Firestein of Bee Spring and Tina Decker of Bee Spring; four brothers, Fred Lamar (Sondra) of Louisville, Randy Lamar (Linda) of Bowling Green, Ben Douglas Lamar (Lori) of Brownsville and Don Lamar (Theresa) of Brownsville; four sisters, Jenetta Crigler (Ed) of Shepherdsville, Linda Wells (Charlie) of Lindseyville, Patricia Marsh (Tom) of Bee Spring and Brenda Lamar (Rick) of Louisville; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

William Anderson “Bill” Logan, 81, of Madisonville, KY passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at the Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson, KY.

Born in Brownsville, KY, to the late Ruth Brooks Logan and V.R. Logan, Bill graduated from Brownsville High School, Murray State University, and after serving in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Captain, he earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Kentucky Law School.

Bill had a distinguished legal career, beginning in Frankfort, KY with the firm of Hazelrigg and Cox, followed shortly thereafter by a move to Madisonville to join the firm of Gordon and Gordon, which in time would become Logan, Morton, and Ratliff. He was elected a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and was chosen to serve on the Kentucky Board of Bar Examiners.

He also had an impressive record of public service, including serving as State Senator for KY-6, followed by a term as chairman of the Kentucky Public Service Commission. He was Chairman of the Madisonville Community CollegeFoundation board for 25 years, a former President of the Murray State University Alumni Association, and a licensed pilot and member of the Airport Board in Madisonville, as well as serving on the Board of Trover Foundation. In 2011, the William A. Logan endowed professorship was created at Madisonville Community and Technical College.

More importantly, Bill was a loving, kind and wise husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joyce Hight Logan, his son, Dr. William Anderson (Aimee) Logan II, and grandchildren, Eric, Emily, and Benjamin Logan. He is also survived by his brothers, Dr. John A. (Jackie) Logan, and Dr. Thomas B. (Jo) Logan, both of Henderson, KY, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Emma Elizabeth Logan.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Dr. Stephen Seaford officiating. Burial will follow in New Salem Cemetery in Nortonville, KY.

Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. Saturday and from 12:00 P.M. until service time Sunday at the funeral home.

​Willie Thomas Potter, 79 of Bowling Green died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015 at the Medical Center.

The Edmonson County native was a son of the late Wesley Andrew and Ella Mae Cowles Potter and is preceded in death by his wife, Marie Lee Potter and his brothers and sisters, James Edward Potter, Zelma Holder, Louise Wilson, Wildean Massey, Margie Brennstool, Chloe Wiggaloski.

He was a machine operator for Southland Manufacturing and a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Edmonson County and attended Freewill Baptist Church.

His survivors include his brothers, Ralph "Bug" Potter (Irene) and Billy Potter; a sister, Brenda Elmore and several nieces and nephews.

Ruth Minyard Mahannah, 84 of Florence, KY., departed this life on Thursday, December 17, 2015, in Erlanger, Kentucky. The Urbana, Illinois native was born on January 7, 1931 to the late Ulza and Martha J. Davis Minyard and married to Charles Rex Mahannah of Florence, KY. 

She was a former Bookkeeper for H and R Block and was a member of Garden Hills Baptist Church. 

She is also survived by one daughter, Kathy Mahannah (Kevin Kreft) of Florence, KY.; one son, Tim Mahannah (Jana) of Arcola, IL.; four grandchildren, Madison Higgins, Chase Knibbe,    Preston Knibbe and Molly Mahannah and one great granddaughter, Emma Wienke.

Kathy Denham Campbell, age 64, of Brownsville, KY departed this life on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at her residence. The Edmonson County native was born July 1, 1951-- the daughter of the late Neil Denham and the late Katie Logsdon Denham. She was married to Dallis Campbell, who survives.

She was a substitute teacher for the Edmonson County School System and a homemaker. She was also a member of Oak Grove United Baptist Church.

Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Mechelle Rose (Jason) of Chalybeate and Angela Campbell of Morganfield; two grandchildren, Macy Carrigan and Gavin Rose; one aunt, Willowdean Sanders all of Chalybeate and two cousins, Gary Meredith and Glenna Meredith.

Marie Cassidy, 94, of  Brownsville, KY departed this life on Monday, December 14, 2015 in Brownsville, KY. The Edmonson County native was born October 18, 1921 to the late Sherman Poteet and the late Estel Scruggs Poteet and was married to the late Patrick Cassidy. 

She was a retired seamstress for Brownsville manufacturing and a member of New Grove Missionary Baptist Church.   

She is survived by one son, Sam L. ​Janet Lynn Holder Rose, 61 of Bowling Green died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015 at her residence.

The Warren County native was a daughter of the late Elmer "Pete" and Ruth Ann Stone Holder. She was a housewife.

Lorene Wilson, 86 of Bowling Green died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015 at the Medical Center.

The Edmonson County native was a daughter of the late Clarence and Gladys Bolton Johnson and wife of the late Gaythel Loy Wilson.

She is preceded in death by a brother, Virgil Leon "Tommy" Johnson; son-in-law, Jack Hunt; brother-in-law, Billy Burnett. She was a seamstress for 37 years at Union Underwear and a member of the Shadyland Church of Christ.

Her survivors include her son Randy Wilson (Donna); a daughter, Janet Hunt; four grandchildren, Lisa Wilson Lindsey (B.J.), Brandon Wilson (Sharon), Sara Hunt, and Xander Esparza; two sisters, JoAnn Duncan (Simpson) and Barbara Burnett; several nieces & nephews.

Charles Edward Richards Sr., age 86, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Friday, (December 4, 2015) at his home.

He was born on August 28, 1929 in Louisville, KY, the son of the late William Vernus and Beulah Ethel Davis Richards.

He was a Korean Army Veteran, a sheet metal worker and a retired realtor, a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Highland Park Masonic Lodge # 865 in Louisville, the Shrewsbury Eastern Star and was a deacon and faithful member of the Beech Grove United Baptist Church.

He is survived by three daughters, Debra Lucille Williams (Cecil) of Millwood, KY, Patricia Carol Ramsey (Mike) of Chalybeate, KY, and Beulah Charlene Richards of Leitchfield, four sons, Charles Edward Jr. (Carolyn) of Mt. Sherman KY, Thomas Rae of Caneyville, KY, Michael Lee (Renee) of Louisville, KY and William Steven Richards (Tina) of Leitchfield, two sisters, Margaret Pogue of Louisville, Betty Jean Smith of Priceville, KY, four brothers, Donald of Middletown KY, Daymond and Gerald of Bonnieville, KY and Raymond Richards of Priceville. He is also survived by a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris J Richards, a daughter, Mary Darlene Richards and a brother, Kenneth Richards.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, (December 9, 2015) at the Claggett United Baptist Church, 4052 Owensboro Rd. in Leitchfield. Bro. Tommy Jackson and Bro. Wayne Tomes will be officiating. Burial will be in the Sanders Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and at the Claggett Church from 9:00 a.m. Wednesday until time of services.

Christine Carroll Duvall, 82, of Virginia Beach, VA passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2015 in Virginia Beach. She was born to the late Noel and Ellis Meredith Carroll and was an Edmonson County native and was the wife of Freeman Duvall, who survives.

Christine was an underwriter for the Federal Housing Authority and a member of Jock United Baptist Church.

Besides her husband, she is survived by one brother, Billy R. Carroll of Louisville; two sisters, Lorene C. Vincent of Bee Spring and Clara Jean Elmore (Bud) of Louisville and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles R. Carroll.

Interment will be at Jock Church Cemetery with Bro. Jerry Patton officiating.

She was a retired seamstress for Brownsville manufacturing, cook at numerous restaurants, homemaker, farmer, member of Rocky Hill Eastern Star, and a Baptist. 

​She is survived by one daughter, Pat “Chechie” Vincent of Chalybeate; one step son, Paul Kerr of La Grange; seven step daughters, Bonnie Cook of Cedar Springs, Maxine Stanton of Louisville, Doris Dean of Louisville,  Carolyn Rhoton  of Indiana,  Wilma Allen of Chalybeate and Debbie Kerr of Park City; fourteen grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Clara Lindsey and one stepson, Jimmy Keith.
