The Edmonson County native was born on November 17, 1942 to the late Lacy and Marie Minton. She was married to John W. Elmore on January 6, 1979, who survives.
Linda lived in Greenwood, Indiana for ten years before retiring to Florida. Residing there until returning to Indiana in 2014. She was a member of Sweeden Missionary Baptist Church. Besides her husband, she leaves to honor her memory— one step daughter, Anna Sneed; one nephew, Robert J. Minton and one niece, Tammy Minton. Joshua worked as a contractor. Both he and his brother, Andrew, were saved on April 15, 2000 at Pleasant Grove “Miller Hill” Missionary Baptist Church. He joined the church and was baptized the following day, and remained a member until his death. The Warren County native was a son of the late Roy and Eula Cowles Carrier and is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Joetta Hood Carrier, a grandson, Devin Lee Carrier, and three sisters, Christine Hoffart, Pauline Godsave and Georgie Massey. He was raised in the Bristow area of Warren County by farming parents and following graduation at Bristow High School in 1952 he joined the National Guard for two years. From there he was drafted into the US Army as a Tank Commander. After returning to civilian life, he married Joetta Hood and began farming and raising a family. He devoted his life to serving the Lord and is a member of Cave Mill Baptist Church. His passion was songwriting and during his lifetime, he composed over 100 gospel songs, country songs and recitations that have been played on Christian radio station WJCR and in several countries. His compositions have been performed by many of the great gospel artists. He formed a vocal gospel music group called the Singing Seniors in 1993 which consisted of approximately 30-35 members and they performed at churches, nursing homes, and various events for the past 25 years. His survivors include his son, Derwin Carrier; two daughters, Vivian McDaniel (Phillip) and Melissa Carrier; five grandchildren, Amy Smith (Chad), Natalie Cardwell, Nathan McDaniel (Jamie), Dustin Carrier, Tami Smith; seven great grandchildren; two brothers, Darel Carrier (Donna) and Harel Carrier (Judy); two sisters, Naomi Forbes (Gene), Zella Rice, Martha McCrady; several nieces and nephews. Benjamin “Ben” Jaggers, age 75 of Bowling Green, KY, passed from the loving arms of his wife and daughter into eternal care of our Lord on December 9, 2018 at the UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital in Lexington, KY. Ben was born in Edmonson County, KY on July 1, 1943 to the late Irvin VanBuren and Virginia Frances Sturdivant Jaggers. He was married to the love of his life, his best friend and soulmate MaryAnne Neville Jaggers, who survives. They were inseparable—truly one flesh.
Ben was a Christian, a member of Lehman Avenue Church of Christ where he proudly served on the building committee. He was a professional real estate developer,the president of Music Village, USA, Vice-president of Tourism for Hendersonville, TN Chamber of Commerce, owned various businesses and served on many boards. For many years, he sang baritone in the southern Kentucky gospel quartet, The Kinsmen. Besides his wife, he leaves to cherish and honor his memory, one daughter, his beloved Karyn Leigh Jaggers Gifford of Nashville; two grandchildren, Brittain Gifford and Hope Anne Gifford Davidson (Brandon); one great granddaughter, Ayvah Faith Davidson; very special niece, Kimberly Anne Danna (Larry); three brothers, Dean Jaggers (Hazel), Dale Jaggers (Deborah) and Corlett Jaggers (Wandalene) and two sisters, Lavetta Wolfe (Gary) and Glenda Jaggers; uncle, R.W. He was a son of the late Henry Poteet and Pearl White Poteet and the husband of the late Nina Booker Poteet. He was preceded in death by a step brother, Johnathon Downs and paternal grandparents, Elwood and Kathrine Ervin. Mattie Sue Shelton, born on July 21, 1933, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 26, 2018, at the age of 85. She was preceded in death by her husband; James; her father and mother: Robert and Christine Whitaker Marshall; her sister and husband: Dorothy and Paul Parsons, and brother and wife: Carl and Opal Marshall. She is survived by a sister: Linda Marshall Smith. James retired from General Electric in Louisville. He was an avid fisherman, loved to play cards and was a 50+ year member of the Swigert-Middletown Lodge No. 218, F.& A.M. in Louisville, KY. Mattie Sue was a housewife who loved to garden and sew. Formerly of Taylorsville, Kentucky, following his retirement, they moved to Edmonson County, Kentucky where they resided at Nolin Lake.
