Jeff Lashley, 63, of Brownsville passed away Dec. 27, 2022 at his home.
 
The Edmonson County native was a 1977 graduate of ECHS, a retired employee of Southern States, and a member of Red Hill General Baptist Church. He was a son of the late Phillip Junior Lashley and Maxine Basham Lashley. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bennie Carlton Lashley.
 
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Red Hill Cemetery. Visitation will take place 3-7 PM Thursday and after 9:00 AM Friday.
 
Surviving are two sons, Todd Lashley (Renee Hart) and Josh Lashley both of Bowling Green; a sister, Charlene Embry (Tom) of Cave City; three brothers, Phillip Lavon Lashley of Richardsville, Trenton Lashley (Katia) of Brownsville and Jody Lashley (Shawna) of Moutardier; three grandchildren, Mason Lashley, Brooklyn Lashley, and Hannah Lashley; and several nieces and nephews.

Debra W. Woosley, 61, of Mammoth Cave passed away Dec. 21, 2022 at her home.
 
The Lexington native was an accounting specialist and a member of The Mission Church. She was the daughter of the late Joyce Ward.
 
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Lile Cemetery in Anneta. Visitation will take place 5-7 PM Tuesday and after 9:00 AM Wednesday.
 
Surviving are her husband, Tom Woosley; three sons, Travis Lee Woosley of Georgia, Tom Abner (Katie) of Richmond and Tim Goins of Tampa, FL; a brother, Doug Ward of Corbin; and three grandchildren.

Brent Allen Duvall, 42, of Sunfish passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield with family and friends by his side.
 
He was born in Leitchfield, the son of Vickie and the late Joey Duvall, and lived in Sunfish for his entire life. A charismatic individual known to many as “Spike”, Brent loved to farm, hunt, fish and visit with friends and family.
 
Funeral services will beheld at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 21, at St.
John The Evangelist Parish in Sunfish. Visitation will take place Tuesday, December 20, from 3-7 p.m. at Gravil Funeral Home.

​Gail Johnson, age 68 of Mammoth Cave, departed this life on Friday, December 16, 2022 at her home. The Edmonson County native was born on August 4, 1954 to the late Delbert and Elburtia “Birt” Sanders. On November 26, 1970,  she married Larry Mark Johnson, who also preceded her in death. 
    
Gail was saved at the age of twelve, and joined Hill Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained a member until her passing. She was the former owner of Johnson’s Custom Signs in Cave City. 

She leaves to honor her memory— daughters, Candy Rhea Kidwell (Danny) of Mammoth Cave, Connie Lynn Meredith of Cub Run and Wanda Jo Gore (Kenny) of Horse Cave; grandchildren, Samantha Jo Meredith, Jesse Dwight Meredith and Sierra Elburtia Gore; great-grandchild, Aaron Blaine Martin; sisters, Polly Goins (Charles), Rachel Haycraft, Nathel Haycraft and Delores Jones; brothers, Easol Sanders (Erma) and David Sanders (Linda); numerous others nieces and nephews, including a very special nephew, Samuel Sanders (Debbie), who was like a son and daughter to her, and a special niece, Annette Geary, who was also like a daughter.  She was also preceded in death by, brothers Osa and Dennie Sanders, and sisters Molly Kersey and Ollie Sanders. 

Interment will be in Hill Grove Church Cemetery.

​Ricky Allen Wells, 62, of Lagrange passed away Dec. 15, 2022 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville.
 
The Edmonson County native was a mechanic and a member of Fairview United Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Conard Wells and Emiline Bratcher Wells of Smiths Grove, who survives.
 
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Locust Grove Cemetery. Visitation will take place 3-7 PM Sunday and after 9:00 AM Monday.
 
Also surviving are a son, Anthony Allen Wells of Glasgow; a daughter, Tina Hubbard (Alan) of Glasgow; and five grandchildren.

Josephine Vincent Fink, 62, of Hodgenville passed away Dec. 14, 2022 at Baptist Health Hardin in Elizabethtown.

The Jefferson County native was a homemaker. She was the daughter of the late Billy Lahue Vincent and Beulah Johnson Vincent and the wife of the late Donald Walton Fink Jr. She was preceded in death by a companion, Kenneth Havunen.

No public services are scheduled. Gravil Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Surviving are a son, Donald Walton Fink III of Magnolia; four brothers, Chester Vincent (Tina) of Reidsville, NC, Steve Vincent (Linda) of Elizabethtown, Huel Vincent of Hodgenville and Robert Vincent (Keisha) of Clarkson; two grandchildren, Noah Harris and Emily Fink; and several nieces and nephews.

James Marshall Doyle, age 75 of Park City, departed this life on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at TJ Samson Community Hospital. The Jeffersonville, IN native was born on April 9, 1947 to the late Marvin Bransford Doyle and Elizabeth Lamastus Doyle. He was married to Peggy Hargrove Doyle, who survives. 

James served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era. Upon completing his naval service he served as a pastor in College Grove, TN., Nashville, TN., Jeffersonville, IN., Jackson, MS., Louisville, KY., Homestead, FL., Newport News, VA., Brazoria, TX., and Yuma, AZ until he retired.  He was a member of Horse Cave Baptist Church.
Besides his wife he leaves to honor his memory-- one son, James M. Doyle II of Portsmouth, VA.; two daughters, Charisa Doyle Johnson (Joe) of Angleton, TX and Cara Doyle Rupp (Jesse) of Park City; grandchildren, Alex Doyle, Jacob Johnson, Sophia Johnson, Amy Elizabeth Trevino, Zoe Johnson, Emily Johnson, Paige Johnson, Jessica Lyla Rupp and Jack William Rupp; siblings, Lesley Doyle (Ann), Robert Doyle (Diana), Marvin Doyle, Larry Doyle (Becky) and John Doyle (Rhonda). He was also preceded in death by one sister, Lee Doyle.

Michael David Preyer, 64, of Brownsville passed away Dec. 5, 2022 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.

The Deer Park, CA native was an aerospace engineer for Northrup-Grumman. He was the son of the late David Michael Preyer and Robert and Virginia Holt Coombs of California, who survive.

Surviving are his wife, Genelle Clayton Preyer; a son, Steven Preyer (Heather) of Temecula, CA; a daughter, Tiffany Orta of Tallahassee, FL; four grandchildren, Avery Preyer, Jarod Orta, Abigel Preyer and Pamela Faith Preyer; and three sisters, Jodie, Geanie and Bonnie.

Kenneth John Havunen, 76, of Hodgenville passed away Dec. 9, 2022 at Baptist Health Hardin in Elizabethtown.

The Smithfield, RI native was a talented pianist and was a machinist and mechanical engineer for Raytheon. He was the son of the late Neil W. Havunen and Ruth Stalker Havunen and the husband of the late Blanche Fortier Havunen.

No public services are scheduled. Gravil Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Surviving are three daughters, Amy Church and Tracy Hart both of Pascoag, RI and Amanda Voyles of Plant City, FL; eight grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. He was also survived by his companion, Josephine Vincent Fink until her passing on Dec. 14, 2022.

Wanda Graham Day, age 76, of Cub Run, departed this life on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at Signature Healthcare Hart County. The Hart County native  was born on September 11, 1946 to the late Lester and Barbara Nunn Graham.

Wanda was a former federal employee for the Hart County FSA office.  Wanda loved spending time with her family and friends as well as attending church.  She was a wonderful mother, mamaw and friend. She grew up in Hammonsville, KY, and later moved to Cub Run, KY. As a young adult, she got saved at Rockford View United Baptist Church.  Later on, Wanda became a devoted member of Macedonia United Baptist Church in Cub Run.

She leaves to honor her memory— her sons, Rev. Terry Day (Deidre) of Munfordville and Jason Day of Cub Run; grandchildren, Kelsey Highbaugh (Daniel), Trent Day (Kaitlyn), Logan Day (Becca), Cameron Day, Alyssa Day and Jacie Day; great-grandchildren, Hadley, Presley, Dylan and Piper; a brother, David Graham (Andra); a sister-in-law, JoAnn Graham; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by two siblings,  Darryl Graham and Shirley Carroll. 

Interment will be in Macedonia Church Cemetery.

Laverne Jaggers Meredith, age 80, of Park City, departed this life on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at her residence. The Louisville, KY native was born on June 16, 1942 to the late Herman and Beulah Horton Jaggers. She was married to Kenneth Meredith, who also preceded her in death. 

Laverne was a caregiver and member of the Baptist faith.

Andrew Thomas Gonterman, age 4, of Shepherdsville, returned to his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, December 7, 2022. He was able to become a superhero, as he always wanted through organ donation. Andrew was born on April 27, 2018 in Elizabethtown, KY.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his parents, Angela and Neil Gonterman; sisters, Amelia and Abigail; paternal grandparents, Randy and Pam Gonterman; maternal grandparents, Ronald and Teresa Judd; uncle and aunt, Ronald Judd, Jr. and Ashley Judd; great uncle and aunt, Stanley and Karen Gonterman; cousin, Mark Gonterman and a host of other dear family and friends.

Thelma Lewis, age 95, of Park City, passed away on Friday, December 9, 2022 at her residence. The Barren County native was born on April 16, 1927 to the late Nathan and Jewell Emerson Williams. She was married to Lethel “Jack” Lewis, who also preceded her in death.Thelma was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church and was a homemaker.

​Melba Vincent, age 94 of Brownsville, departed this life on Friday, December 9, 2022 at the Genesis Edmonson Center in Brownsville. The Edmonson County native was born on June 13, 1928 to the late Rev. Lawrence and Bessie Chambers Vincent. She was married for over fifty years to Rev. Jake Vincent, who also preceded her in death.

Melba was the oldest member of Poplar Spring United Baptist Church, and was very devoted to her church until her health began to fail.  She worked in her home as a homemaker, and was an Avon representative for many years.

She leaves to honor her memory—daughters, Melissa Vincent (Johnny) of Chalybeate and Kathy Sue Spinks of Bowling Green; grandchildren, Rachel Smith (Stofer), Shawn Phillips (Jen), Bryant Phillips (LeAnn), Dakota Vincent and Derek Spinks; great-grandchildren, Bailey Phillips (Jose), Taylor Phillips, Cole Phillips (Miranda), Tyler Phillips, Tate Phillips, Brandon McKay Spinks and Hayden Browning; great-great–grandchildren, Jacey Grey Phillips and Jameson Canchola; siblings, Bro. Orene Vincent, age 94, of Sweeden, departed this life on Friday, December 9, 2022 at Genesis Edmonson Center.  The Edmonson County native was born on June 8, 1928 to the late Efford “Elbow” and Ethel Meredith.  She was married to Dewey Truman Vincent, who also preceded her in death. 

Orene was a homemaker and worked with her hands to care for her family’s needs.  She was a member of Bee Spring Missionary Baptist Church, and the Green River Order of Eastern Star #577.  

She leaves to honor her memory— her daughters, Suzy Wood (Barry) and Debbie Doyle (Jerry) all of Brownsville; grandchildren, Natalie Basham (Tommy), Katherine Hall (David), Matthew Wood (Cecily) and Andrew Doyle (Ashley) and great-grandchildren, Taylor Harrison, Katherine Hall, Truman Hall, Gavin Basham, Gunner Basham and Cordelia Hall.  She was also predeceased by an infant son, Dewey T. Carolyn Blair, age 65, of Cave City, departed this life on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at The Medical Center at Caverna. The Barren County native  was born on October 22, 1957 to the late Jessie “Dick” and Marilyn Wagoner Hampton. She was married to Murrell Blair, who also preceded her in death.

Carolyn retired as a seamstress from Carhart,  and had worked in years passed at Dart and KOA. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren, whom she adored. 

She leaves to honor her memory— her sons, Bobby Blair and Joseph Blair (April) all of Cave City; her granddaughters, Lily and Madelyn Blair; her siblings, Betty Hatcher (Eugene) of Cave City, Billy Hampton (Debbie) of Cave City and Wayne Hampton (Phyllis Ward) of Horse Cave; nephews and niece, Jessie Hampton, Joseph Hatcher and Marilyn Hampton, along with several other nephews, nieces and extended family members. Besides her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by two siblings, Robert Jessie Hampton and Patsy Carnahan. 

Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery.

Thomas Allen “T.J.” Payne Jr., 30, of Wingfield passed away Nov. 29, 2022 at his home.

The Edmonson County native was a farmer and a former employee of Whayne Supply. He was a son of Thomas Allen Payne Sr. of Scottsville and Judy Lynn Smith Payne of Wingfield, who survive. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gerald and Betty Jo Smith and Pizal and Allie Payne; and a niece, April Belcher.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday at Wingfield Cemetery. Visitation will take place 10:00 AM-1:00 PM at Gravil Funeral Home.

Also surviving are his wife, Veronica Lovos Payne; a son, Justin Allen Payne; a daughter, Marilyn Alexia Payne; a sister, Leslie Payne (Ben Miller) of Morgantown; a brother, Adam Smith (Jessica) of Wingfield; two nephews, Blake Smith and Jonathan Gertiser; two nieces, Shyanne Belcher and Haley Gertiser; a great nephew, Khyler Hogan; and several aunts and uncles.
