Jannie Lou Campbell, age 72 of Brownsville, departed this life on Christmas day, Monday, December 25, 2023 at TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, TN. The Edmonson County native was born on November 12, 1951 to the late Elmer and Erma Dean Hogan. She was married to her husband and best friend, Owen Wayne Campbell, until they were parted by his death on January 30, 2019.
Jannie retired from Family Dollar after working for many years as an assistant store manager. She was a member of Oak Grove United Baptist Church. Jannie had a kind and gentle demeanor. She truly loved her family, and loved their times spent together. She leaves to honor her memory — her children, Tracy Campbell (Cassie) of Stanton and Felicia Graham (Larry) of Pine Grove; seven grandchildren, Dylan Campbell (Mary), Colin Campbell, Cameron Campbell, Tyler Campbell, Shayna Campbell, Zackery Graham (Abby), Morgan Graham (Cory Carpenter), and Lauren Potts (David); seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bennie Hogan (Jeanine) and Keith Hogan (Martha), along with several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. The Winterhaven, FL native was a son to the late Russell and Ada Baughman Linger. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Carolyn Barksdale Linger; daughter, Lauren Lundeen; and was the last of the five Linger siblings.
Mr. Linger served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Georgia Tech University and later received a Certificate of the Management Development Program from the Emory School of Business Administration. He was an Aeronautical Engineer and retired from NASA and was a member of Smiths Grove Methodist Church. He is survived by his children, Mary Linger, Matthew Linger and Christy Allen (Dean); grandchildren, Daniel Dixon (Brittany) and John Lundeen; great-grandchildren, Sofia Dixon and Kingsley Dixon; several nieces and nephews. Edwin Dale “Bobby” Orton, 93 of Lexington passed peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, December 23, 2023.
The Burkesville, Kentucky, native was a son of the late David Orton and Edythe Allen Orton. He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Elvira Denney Orton; a daughter, Sandra Adwell and his six siblings. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, Bobby joined the Kentucky Department of Highways. Upon his retirement from the Highway Department in 1988, he joined the City of Lexington Engineering Department, where he retired in 2002. Bobby loved U K Basketball, gardening, and telling stories to his McDonald’s group. He volunteered with the Special Olympics and the National Kidney Foundation. He was a member of Central Christian Church of Lexington, the UK Wildcat Club, the F.R.E.A.K.S. Social Club, and co-president of the Sheldon Club. Leaving to cherish his memory is his wife of 36 years, Margaret Orton; two daughters, Barbara Jean Orton Roy (Tony) and Sherrie Lane Orton Sheets (Todd); two step-sons, Ronnie Adwell (Shelly) and James Thomas Adwell; seven grandchildren: Devin Orton, Garrett Cross, Alex Adwell (Amanda), Caroline Simpson, Anne Simpson, Brooke Ingram (Josh), and Brittany White; two great grandchildren, Onyx Adwell and Cooper Ingram; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Danielle was a 1994 graduate of Edmonson County High School, and obtained her masters degree from Western Kentucky University. She worked for Warren County Public Schools at Warren Central High School as an English as a Second Language Teacher. Danielle loved her school kids, and they adored her. She was saved as a young girl at Wingfield United Baptist Church, where she was a member. In recent years, she attended Crossland Community Church. She loved spending valued time with her family, friends, and her precious fur babies. She loved the outdoors, and watching the horse races at Keeneland. Stevie retired from General Electric, where he worked for thirty-six years in manufacturing and as a safety inspector. He was saved as a twelve-year-old boy at Union Light Missionary Baptist Church, and remained a member there until his passing. Stevie was also a member of the IUE-CWA Local 83761 Union. He thoroughly enjoyed working on antique cars, attending car shows and riding his Harley Davidson with his wife. His greatest love was spending valued time with his family. C.D. served our country in the U.S. Navy for over 20 years, and served during the Korean and Vietnam wars. After retirement from the military, he started working at Mammoth Cave National Park. While he was there, he worked in maintenance, ran the Mammoth Cave Ferry and later retired. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association and of the Christian faith. C.D. enjoyed being around people. He could be found at many community gatherings and always had a good story to tell. His quick wit was always enjoyed by those he shared his stories and laughter with. Besides his wife, Helen, he leaves to honor his memory— his sons, Steven Church, Randall Kevin Church (Mary Ann), Perry Church (Maria) and Russell Church; son-in-law, Tony O’Malley; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
