Geneva Blanton Lane, age 89 of Daytona Beach, Florida, peacefully departed this life on Sunday, December 29, 2024 at The Gardens Health and Rehab Center in Daytona Beach. The Edmonson County native was born in the Grassland Community to the late Desmond and Nannie Harrell Blanton. She was preceded in death by her first husband of seven years, Leon Wood, and her second husband of twenty-eight years, William “Bill” Lane.
Geneva was saved as a young girl at Pleasant Union United Baptist Church. She and Leon owned and operated H & H Restaurant in Brownsville. She later worked as a secretary at Kyrock Elementary School. Upon retirement, she remarried and moved to Daytona Beach. She and Bill started a new chapter in their lives and were active with the Neighborhood Watch program and actively supported the local police department. She also enjoyed hunting for treasures at yard sales and spending time with their friends and neighbors. She leaves to honor her memory— her siblings, Chloie Musick, Karren Littell (Bruce) and Britt Blanton (Pearlene); five nieces; two nephews; three great-nieces and two great-nephews. Bob's professional journey began with KY Telephone, where he worked diligently as a lineman, service technician, and installer. His expertise not only connected families but also formed lasting relationships within the community. His work ethic was commendable, but it was his heart and commitment to service that truly distinguished him. A sense of duty also defined Bob's life beyond his career. He proudly served our nation in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, embodying the values of honor and sacrifice that we hold dear. These qualities carried over into his local commitments. Bob's legacy will forever be intertwined with his remarkable tenure as the Mayor of Park City, a role he held for fifteen years. Park City was his home, and he worked tirelessly for the betterment of the community. He was also an esteemed member of Park City Baptist Church, and the Park City Masonic Lodge #934 F&AM. Bob found camaraderie and purpose among his brothers, dedicating over 65 years to the lodge. His contributions extended beyond the ordinary, as he embraced the role of “BoShag” for Shriners International, bringing joy and laughter to adults and children alike. The Edmonson County native was a housewife and a member of Pleasant Union United Baptist Church. Lona also served many years as a cook for the Edmonson County Schools and later at the Joy Wells Nursing Home. Lona got under conviction at a tent revival at Oakland, where Bro. Jessie Gilbert preached her the gospel. She was an 11-year-old girl when she attended a revival at Chalybeate Springs Baptist Church, and she got saved. Bro. Barney Beckner and Bro. Sammy Vincent were carrying on the meeting, when one Sunday night the Lord came by and gloriously saved her soul. Lona joined Midway United Missionary Baptist Church as a young girl. In 1989, she joined Pleasant Union after the Lord came by and saved her son, Kevin. Lona was married to the late Bro. Elzie G. Lindsey, Jr. on March 2, 1957 by Rev. Lawrence Vincent. To the marriage they had two children, Regina Lynn Webb of Sweeden and Kevin Lee Lindsey of Sweeden, and were blessed with one granddaughter, Autumn Brooke Dennison of Sweeden. Lona was devoted to and became a caregiver to her husband until his passing in 2007. Years later, she also devoted her life to being a caregiver to her son, Kevin, until his passing in 2022. Lona’s favorite moments were spending time and especially cooking for her family. The Edmonson County native was born on August 17, 1943 to the late Homer B. “Tom” and Hallie Poteet Hawks. She was married to her husband of fifty-five years, Ralph J. “Bug” Potter, until they were parted by his passing on April 28, 2016.
Irene was a devoted homemaker. She found joy in picking berries, canning and tending to her yard work. However, her greatest love was her family and grandchildren. She took immense pride in their accomplishments and cherished every moment spent with them, fostering a special bond that will forever be remembered. Irene was saved in September of 1955 at Wingfield United Baptist Church, and would often reflect on how the choir was singing “I’ll Fly Away” as the Lord saved her soul. She remained a member of Wingfield, a place that she truly treasured. She leaves to honor her memory — her children, Richard Potter (Charla) of Wingfield and Glenda Crowder (David) of Shepherdsville; her grandchildren, Matthew Crowder (Bethany), Cody Deering (Karen), Hannah Cowles (Chance), John Potter and Callie Sue Potter; great-grandchildren, Wesley and Whitley Crowder and Lily and Levi Deering; her brothers, Wayne Hawks (Ethel) and Oneal “Ford” Hawks, along with several nieces, nephews and dear friends that will miss her. Besides her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her siblings, Pauline Hawks, Opal M. Hawks and Albert “Sam” Hawks. Interment will be in Wingfield Cemetery. She was born on December 30, 1959 to the late Irvin & Deloris Hester Alvey. Sherrian was married to Ronald Davis who preceded her in death.
Sherrian was a housewife and she was a member of the Cub Run United Methodist Church. She is survived by a daughter Selina Gaines(Sam); grandchildren Zachary Druen, Savannah Gaines & Sawyer Gaines; a brother Scott Alvey(Linda); a nephew Tyler Alvey(Christina); great-nieces Lily, Emma & Whitly Alvey and several cousins also survive. The funeral for Sherrian Annette Davis will be held 1pm Sunday, Dec. 8th in the chapel of Sego Funeral Home with Bro. Jack Chadwell officiating. Burial will be in the Union Light Cemetery. Chris Richards, age 58 of Bee Spring, departed this life surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. The Edmonson County native was born on June 25, 1966 to the late Bennie Earl and Ruby Lavonne Richards. He was married to his best friend and soul mate, Chrise Nichols Richards, who survives.
Chris worked for many years as a technical engineer for AHK. He was saved as a young boy at Beaver Dam United Baptist Church and later joined Fairview United Baptist Church, where he remained a member. His upbringing and spiritual foundation shaped the way he treated others with love and respect. Chris was known for his culinary talents, particularly his love for cooking and grilling BBQ, that he often shared with family and friends. His green thumb shone through in his gardening endeavors, where he found solace in nurturing plants and flowers. Above all, Chris cherished his relationship with his special nephews, showing immense pride and devotion in their lives. Besides his wife, Chrise, he leaves to honor his memory— his special nephews and niece, Amberly Seabolt of North Carolina, Aiden Seabolt of Chalybeate and Tayt Seabolt of Bee Spring; his siblings, Brad Richards (Julie) Rockfield and Pam Renfro of Brownsville, along with several other nephews, nieces and cousins. As a professional in the woodworking field, Glenn spent many years contributing his skills to Building Systems, where he gained the respect and admiration of his colleagues. His attention to detail and passion for creating quality cabinetry were hallmarks of his fulfilling career. Glenn was a proud graduate of Warren East High School, where he cultivated friendships that would last a lifetime. He was saved at Fairview United Baptist Church, and remained a member there until his passing. In addition to his professional and spiritual endeavors, Glenn was an enthusiastic sports fan, particularly of the Pittsburgh Steelers. His passion for the game brought joy and camaraderie to his life, often shared with friends and family during spirited game days. Besides his father, Beuford, he leaves to honor his memory — his siblings, Dennis Richards of Bowling Green and Karen King (Tony) of Wingfield; nephew and niece, Jamie Wilson (Jessica) and Amy Smith, along with a great nephew and great niece, Gavin Rowe and Reece Wilson. She was married to her devoted husband, James Floyd Penner, until they were parted by his passing on December 22, 2007.
Beatrice’s life spanned nearly a century of memories woven with the threads of love, hard work, and faith that steadfastly guided her through life’s seasons. She spent many fruitful years as an assembly line worker at Cutler Hammer, her hands steady and sure as they contributed to the craft of manufacturing. Beyond her professional endeavors, Beatrice's spirit was nurtured within the embrace of the New Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a dedicated member. It was Beatrice’s role as a mother, grandmother, friend, and confidant that defined her very essence. She nurtured the hearts around her with kindness and compassion, always ready to lend an ear or offer words of encouragement. Memories of her warmth will forever linger in the hearts of those she touched. Eventually, she took a bold step to pursue her dreams by starting her own construction company, J.B. Construction, showing incredible determination and resilience along the way. Her faith was an important foundation in her life; she found salvation as a young girl at Ollie United Baptist Church. Above all, Jean cherished the moments spent with her family, finding genuine love and joy in their times together.
