Billy “Pete” Clemmons, a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, respected mentor, and faithful friend, peacefully departed this life at his residence in Chalybeate on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the age of 86, surrounded by the love and presence of his family. A lifelong Edmonson County native, Pete was born on September 21, 1939, to the late Cecil and Cova Clemmons. He shared a beautiful and steadfast marriage with his best friend, caregiver, and devoted wife of sixty-six years, Carol Houchin Clemmons, who survives him. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, hard work, and unwavering love.

Pete proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. Following his military service, he returned home with a servant’s heart and dedicated much of his life to the youth of Edmonson County through his career in education. He began as a teacher with the Edmonson County School District, where he inspired and encouraged countless students, before later serving in administration. Pete possessed a genuine passion for young people and deeply valued the role that academics, athletics, and mentorship played in shaping lives. In addition to his work in the classroom, he also coached basketball, where he was admired not only for his leadership and encouragement, but for the lasting impact he made on his players both on and off the court. One of the proud highlights of his coaching career was leading his team to a district championship. His influence reached far beyond the classroom and gymnasium, as he became a respected and admired figure throughout the community.

After retiring from education, Pete continued his commitment to serving others as park director for Nolin State Park. During his time there, he worked diligently to improve both the Nolin and Moutardier parks, leaving a lasting impact on places that brought enjoyment and memories to so many families.

Outside of his work, Pete found great joy in the simple blessings of life. He loved hunting, traveling to the beach, and taking in the beauty and peacefulness of the scenery around him. He was also an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan who rarely missed the opportunity to cheer on the Wildcats. Above all else, his greatest treasure was his family. Whether cheering from the sidelines, celebrating accomplishments, or simply spending time together, Pete’s steady presence and unconditional love were gifts his family will forever hold close to their hearts. His faith was an important part of his life, and he was a dedicated member of Chalybeate United Baptist Church.

In addition to his beloved wife, Carol, he leaves to cherish his memory— his sons, Kevin Clemmons (Natalie) of Chalybeate and Kyle Clemmons (Angela) of Bowling Green; his treasured grandchildren, Alex Jane Massey (T.J.), Kacy Clemmons (Raven), and Hannah Ruth Clemmons; and his precious great-grandchildren, Lyla Jane, Tilly Jo, and Lottie June Massey, Nash, Paxton, Anna, and Harlow Clemmons. He is also survived by his sister, Linda Cowles (Kenneth); sister-in-law, Stella Clemmons; and several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish the love, kindness, and example he shared throughout his life. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Georgia Cowles, Jesse Pete and Ernest Clemmons.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Alexander Cemetery Fund, c/o Victor Alexander, 394 Lock Road, Brownsville, KY 42210.
