Gary Lee Brownfield, 75

11/20/2025

Picture
Gary Lee Brownfield, 75, of Goodnight, was freed from all earthly burdens on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at Shanti Niketan Hospice Home in Glasgow, surrounded by his beloved family. A Warren County native, he was born on March 16, 1950, to the late Charles Moses and Alpha Moore Brownfield. He was married to his loving wife of fifty-four blessed years, Diana Elmore Brownfield, who survives.

Gary dedicated 28 years to RR Donnelley, after which he spent many of his happiest years devoting his time to the work he loved most—his orchard and garden—tending to the trees and plants he cared for year after year. He took genuine pride in nurturing things that would grow and last. He was such a hard worker and had the strongest work ethic.

Although his life held significant challenges, he rarely complained. He faced the difficult parts of life with a perseverance that is unmatched. A lifelong Dodgers fan, Gary admired Sandy Koufax from boyhood and carried that devotion throughout his life. Baseball remained a simple pleasure until the very end. His interest in ideas ran deep. Though his formal education ended after high school, he had a lifelong love of learning. Gary became an avid reader of history and political theory. He valued education and was proud to see his children and grandchildren do the same.

Above all, his greatest joy was his family. He cherished his wife, daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren, and even as dementia progressed, he continued to recognize them, ask about their lives, and hold tightly to who they were to him. Besides his wife, Diana, he leaves to honor his memory— his three cherished daughters and their husbands, whom he thought the world of, Dana Depp (Doug) of Bowling Green, Amanda Curtis (Josh) of Glasgow, and Kari Kunkel (Matt) of Bowling Green, and six grandchildren who were the greatest joys of all, Taylor Depp (fiancé Cameron Read), Ryan Depp, Payton Curtis, and Ella, Addison, and Annabelle Kunkel. He is also survived by his brothers, Bill Brownfield and Jim Brownfield, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Butler; his brother, “Little” Robert Brownfield; and his sister, Kathy Brownfield.

The family wishes to give a special thanks to all of the wonderful healthcare professionals & first responders they have met on this difficult journey. They are truly the hands and feet of Jesus and bring peace to families during the most difficult times.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Shanti Niketan Hospice Home, 1020 Glenview Dr, Glasgow, KY 42141.
