Goretta Ramey VanMeter, 72, of Bee Spring, Ky passed away peacefully with her family by her side at 3:48 PM on June 5, 2023, at her home. The Pike County native has called Edmonson County home since 1987. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a caring friend. She spent her life for those around her and did all things in her life with love, faith, and kindness.
Her joy was her husband of 37 years, Steve, and her daughter, Keegan. She loved traveling the world and making memories, flowers, and being a pet lover. She was passionate about education and was a retired Health and Physical Education teacher. She worked for several years at Kyrock Elementary School and previously at Phelps High School in Pike County. Throughout her teaching tenure she also taught many sports. Goretta was the daughter of the late Ermol and Imal Ramey. She was preceded in death by her beloved sister Rita Barnes and her Mother-in-law and Father-in-law Margaret and Arnold VanMeter. Visitation services will take place 2-7 PM Thursday & 2-7 PM Friday at Gravil Funeral Home and starting at 9:30AM Saturday at Bee Spring Church. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 AM Saturday at Bee Spring Church with burial to follow at Casey-Ramey Cemetery, at her sister’s farm, in Sweeden, Ky. Surviving are her Husband, Steve VanMeter, her Daughter, Keegan Whitney Smith, PT, DPT of Lexington, a Sister, Baretta Casey, M.D. (Charles Michael) of Sweeden; a Brother, Freeman Ramey (Susan) of Sweeden; a Brother-in-law Todd VanMeter (Jennifer) of Bee Spring; seven nieces Shea Lynn VanMeter, Camala Ferguson (Phil), Shana Bentley (Ronnie), Nicola Oaks (Rob), Jessica Casey, Natasha Murphey (Jim), and Melissa Adams (Gene); two nephews, Aaron Bevins, and Joshua Casey (Lauren); three step nieces and nephews, Melissa Andrews, Matt Ryan, and Trey Ryan; and several beloved great nieces and nephews.
