James Ray Coates, age 75, of Park City, KY, departed this life on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at his residence in Park City. The Edmonson County native was born on September 15, 1941 to the late Robert Lee and Lottie B. Coates. He was married to Edith Childress Coates. James was a Vietnam Army veteran and retired after 20 years with the Army National Guard and also retired from SKF as a machine operator. He was a deacon at Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Besides his wife, he leaves to honor his memory two sons, Tommy Ray Coates of Cave City and David Lee Coates of Park City; three brothers, Ronald Coates, Donald Coates (Kathy) and John Robert Coates all of Park City; five sisters, Francis Ashley of Horse Cave, Helen Nestor (Dave) of Park City, Mary Cutliff (Bobby) of Shelbyville, TN, Linda Draper (Jackie) of Huntsville, AL and Patricia Tomes (Steve) of Park City; four grandchildren, Devan Lashawn Peterson (Michael), Miranda Taylor Jewell (Chris), Zachary Tyler Coates and Justin Lee Coates; two great grandchildren, Wyatt McKinely Peterson and Rayland James Peterson. Interment will be in Liberty Hill Church Cemetery with military honors.
