John David Scott, 79:

Picture
John David Scott was born May 17, 1947 in Brownsville, KY to James and Mary (nee' VanMeter) Scott. Surrounded by the love of his family, John passed away on Friday, July 10, 2026 at his home in Villa Ridge, MO at the age of 79 years.

John grew up in Brownsville, KY and received his education in Edmonson County. He was united in marriage to Joyce Hardeman in 1969 and their marriage was blessed with two sons, David and Darrel. Later in life, John was united in marriage to Betty Brown (nee' Hagedorn) on July 11, 2009 at St. Mary of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Villa Ridge. The couple made their home in Villa Ridge and John's life was blessed with the addition of three step-children, Richard, Randy, and Dana.

John worked most of his life as a laborer and mechanic. He was a laborer for Local 110 for several years and then became a machinist with District 9 Machinists. For the last 25 years of his career, John worked as an automotive mechanic at John's Auto Repair in Pacific, MO and retired in 2011. John was a jack-of-all trades and enjoyed spending time working on most anything that needed repair. He loved to work on things, rebuild motors and automotive parts and generally tinker in his shop. He would often spend a considerable amount of time problem-solving and almost always found a way to get things fixed. He was such a good problem-solver that many of his friends and family members knew that if John couldn't fix it, then it probably wasn't fixable. When he wasn't taking things apart or working on motors, John could be found tending to his garden, hunting, fishing, or spending time with his family. John loved his family dearly and cherished the moments he was blessed to spend with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

John was a longtime member of Pleasant Union United Baptist Church in Brownsville, KY. He was also a member of Elks Lodge 1559 in Washington, MO and American Legion Post 297 in Union, MO.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Brown Scott (nee' Hagedorn) of Villa Ridge; two sons, David Scott and wife Reda of Salem, MO and Darrel Scott and wife Karen of Salem, MO; three step-children, Richard Brown and wife Marie of Villa Ridge, Randy Brown and wife Amy of Villa Ridge, and Dana Strong and husband David of Villa Ridge; 14 grandchildren: Johnny Scott, Sierra Scott, Anthony Scott, Devyn Delance, Sara Anderson (Mitch), Ethan Brown (Megan), Katlynn Brandis (Logan), Abigail Brown, Harrison Brown, Matthew Strong, Alyssa Brown, Emma Brown, Jenna Strong, and Rebecca Cox (Joe); 9 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Scott Priddy of Anneta, KY and Judy Hagedorn and husband Jim of Villa Ridge, MO; brother-in-law, Johnny Hagedorn of Villa Ridge, MO; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary (nee' VanMeter) Scott; six brothers, Tommie, Dan, Charles, Willy, Harold Dean, and Arthur Scott; four sisters, Nancy Kinser, Ida Kinser, Velzie Kinser, and Sue Scott; and his sister-in-law, Shirley Lause.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pleasant Union United Baptist Church.
