Larry Douglas, 71, of Bowling Green entered into rest on January 24 at his home surrounded by loved ones after a four month battle with lung cancer. He was born at home in Lindseyville, KY, on September 16, 1947, and was a baptist. He was proceeded in death by his parents Willie J. and Lottie Douglas; his daughter Melissa Dawn Douglas; and his siblings Warren G., James, Mary (Dodd), Maydell (Hammonds), Shelby (Johnson), and Gilbert.
Larry was a Sergeant in the US Army. He was a Purple Heart recipient for his service in Vietnam. He is a member of the American Legion, Post # 23. Larry was a foreman at Holley Carburetor and a Machinist at American Machine and Welding and Metals n' More. He loved Kentucky Basketball, racing, fishing, going to his lake house, and his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 33 years Teresa Cherry Douglas; his children Craig Douglas (Kim McElwain); Janel Doyle (Kendall) all of Bowling Green; and Brandon (Sandi) of Hawaii. Brothers Bill (Wanda) of Brownsville; Mac (Jackie) of Bowling Green and sisters Carolyn Douglas of Winnipeg, Canada; and Wilma Heidenreich of Arizona. Along with, seven wonderful grandchildren Jace and Jayden Douglas; John Tyler and Kimber Doyle; and Patrick, Emily, and Phoebe Leonard. Several nieces, nephews, and long-time friends. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice of Southern Kentucky or USMC Toys for Tots. American Legion, Post # 23 will conduct a Walk-through and Final Salute at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 1. All veterans are welcome to participate. Friends may call on the family from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1 and after 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2 at the J.C. Kirby and Son Broadway Chapel. A celebration of life will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the J.C. Kirby and Son Broadway Chapel. Cremation was chosen. Comments are closed.
