Lou Ira Thompson Salley, age 86, of Park City, KY, departed this life on Sunday, October 26, 2025—just three days before her 87th birthday—at the Shanti Niketan Hospice Home in Glasgow. She was born on October 29, 1938, in Park City to the late Irvin and Edith Philpott Thompson. She was married to her loving husband of sixty-six years, the late Clyde Salley.

Lou Ira was a lifelong member of Park City United Methodist Church, where she taught children’s Sunday School classes, organized and led Vacation Bible School, sang in the church choir, and served as an officer on the local and district levels of the United Methodist Women. She had a special heart for mission work and children’s ministry.

She worked as secretary to the principal at Park City School and as a bookkeeping assistant at Square Deal Lumber Company in Park City. In later years, she volunteered at Park City Elementary School, helping children learn to read and assisting with their homework. Lou Ira was an active member of the Cave City Homemakers Club for many years. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, gardening, and cheering on her sons and grandchildren in all their activities. Her life was devoted to her family, her church, and her community.

She leaves to honor her memory—her sons, Randy Salley (Ruth) of Louisville and Rusty Salley (Dana) of Glasgow; five grandchildren, Wesley Salley (Allison) of Round Rock, TX, Cameron Salley (Jessie) of Carmel, IN, Alyce Henry (David) of Oak Harbor, WA, Meredith Carter (Jordan) of Indianapolis, IN, and Brooke Holman (Sidney) of Glasgow, KY; fourteen great-grandchildren, Keagon, Braedan, Caitlyn, Kameo, Jakson, Leah, Jackie, Walker, Korin, Joe, Kylar, Lilly, Lauren, and Dynah; sisters-in-law, Rita Thompson and Barbara Salley Clark; along with many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Richard “Bud” Thompson.

The interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in memory of Lou Ira Salley to the Park City United Methodist Church or to the Shanti Niketan Hospice Home in Glasgow, KY.
