Lula Mae Elmore, age 92 of Wingfield, departed this life on Sunday, May 4, 2025 at Christian Community Care in Bowling Green. The Edmonson County native was born on October 27, 1932 to the late Albert “A.J.” and Effie Glass Poteet. She was married to her husband, Lee Elmore, until they were parted by his passing on November 7, 2008.
Lula was a devoted homemaker, selflessly tending to her family’s needs with love and care. Her passions for quilting, making fried pies, nurturing her garden, and observing the beauty of birds reflected her appreciation for life's simple joys. Above all, her love for her family and church, Wingfield United Baptist Church, exemplified her spirit of kindness and devotion. She leaves to honor her memory— her daughters, Pat Hawks of Wingfield, Sheron Harper (Butch) of Smiths Grove and Becky Elmore of Owensboro; grandchildren, Angela Poteet (Byron), Larry Hawks (Callie), Kevin Hawks, Amie Hawks, Erik Elmore (Ann Marie), Thomas Elmore (Sara), Jon Harper, Jessica Harper and James Lee Edmonds (Kassidy); fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, along with several nephews, nieces, neighbors and friends who will miss her. She was also preceded in death by her son, Bobby Elmore; great-granddaughter, Makayla Hawks, four brothers and four sisters. The interment will be in Wingfield Church Cemetery.
