Mary Lou Cook, age 85, of Louisville, formerly of Park City, KY, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Norton’s Brownsboro hospital after a short illness. Mary Lou was born July 29, 1939, in Pikeville, KY, to Lula Bentley and Chester Hutchinson, both now deceased. She married Martin Cook on May 24, 1958, and they were married for almost 29 years in 1987.

Mary Lou was converted on June 18, 1967, at Hemphill Freewill Baptist Church where she became a faithful member until moving to Park City in 1972 upon Martin’s retirement. There she joined Walnut Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where she faithfully attended as long as her health allowed. She served as song leader for many years and was a fine example of a Christian woman.

She was an outstanding wife, mother, and homemaker, doing everything in her power to make sure all their family were well taken care of. She was an excellent cook, and with Martin’s help, she raised a garden and canned vegetables as long as she was able. Mary Lou worked as a secretary and head start teacher at Hemphill Elementary while her children attended. Later in life, she worked retail at Dress Ups at the Horse Cave Outlet Mall, then managed The Inn, a popular restaurant in Glasgow, putting her cooking and organizational skills to good use.

She is survived by her children, Drema Wilson (Rick) and Marty Cook (Elizabeth) both of Louisville; grandsons, Robert Evan Bates and Michael Martin Cook; son-in-law, Robert “Bob” Bates along with numerous precious nieces, nephews, and extended family to mourn her passing. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Melody Cook Bates, and her siblings, June, Lois, Dorothy, Janice, Phyllis, and Dean Bentley. Mary Lou will be laid to rest at Walnut Hill Cemetery next to her beloved husband. In one of the many clippings she collected and stored in her Bible was found this special one, “Death leaves a heartache no one heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.”
