Deborah Ann Scott, 66, of Roundhill passed away Saturday Jan 15, 2022 at The Medical Center.
The Grayson County native was a retired clerk at The Corner Market in Roundhill. She was a daughter of the lateVernon Ferguson and Deloris Helson Ferguson. She was preceded in death by a brother, Gayle Ferguson; and a brother-in-law, Lawton Eaton. Nelsie Mae Taylor, age 83 of Mammoth Cave, departed this life on Thursday, January 14, 2022 at Hospice of Southern Kentucky in Bowling Green. The Edmonson County native was born on May 19, 1938 to the late Almon A. and Mable Kidwell Brooks. She was married to her devoted help mate of over fifty-six years, Bro. Dave B. Taylor, before he preceded her in death on August 31, 2013.
Nelsie was saved as a young girl at the old Nolin School. She joined Union Light Missionary Baptist Church, and attended Hill Grove Missionary Baptist Church until her health failed her. She worked as a homemaker and took care of the needs of her household, whether it was pressing shirts for Bro. Dave during revivals or cooking meals for her children and grandchildren. She leaves to honor her memory-- three sons, Allen Taylor (Veronica) of Ollie, Brandt Taylor (Kim) of Chalybeate and Reed Taylor (Judy) of Mammoth Cave; one daughter, Karen Agee (Jim) of Brownsville; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Weldon Brooks (Sharon) of Bowling Green and two sisters, Bobbi Wilson (Robert) and Nina Childress (Kenneth) all of Mammoth Cave. The Delafield native was born June 5, 1940, to the late Opal and Carl Harral . Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Michael Harral and David Harral and his sisters, Linda Anderson, Jo Ann Gilbert, Doris Peach and Sandra Harper. He served his community as a skilled laborer and trade worker for many years. He loved his family and was an avid lover of bluegrass music. He was a longtime emcee of the Auburn Bluegrass Jam. Garnett is survived by his wife of 60 years, Frances Pennington Harral; their daughters: Teresa Lindsey (Scott) of Chalybeate, Edith Adamson (Joe) of Woodburn and Rhonda Dillard of Plum Springs. Reva Nell Brown, age 83, of Glasgow, passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2022 in Glasgow. The Mud Lick, KY native was born on March 30, 1938 to the late Tommy Winfield Brown and Lee Edna Miller Brown.
Reva was born with shortened arms which, with effort, can grip no more than a piece of paper. She learned to complete day-to-day functions with her feet. Reva began to draw cartoons, then progressing into landscape, animals and religious works. One of the highlights of Reva’s life was being a member of the Mouth and Foot Paint Association since 1982. She also attended Glenview Drive First Church of God. Reva is survived by her nephew, Rondal Rex Brown; niece, Cornetta Hurt; great-nephew, Ken McKenney (Leslie) and great-niece, Lisa Ann Houchens (Paul). The devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother was born Oct. 24, 1943 in Louisville. At the age of 14, she married the love of her life and lived the rest of her life in Edmonson County. At the age of 17, she was saved in a revival held by Bro. Lawrence Vincent and became a member of Poplar Springs United Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her brother, James Clark. Cindy worked as a floral designer for Madison’s Flowers for over thirty-five years. She was a member of Poplar Spring United Baptist Church, and most recently attended Boiling Springs Church of Christ. Cindy had a pure, servant’s heart. She saw the best qualities in everyone, and loved to volunteer her time to help with the DAV Auxiliary, Chalybeate Volunteer Fire Department, Edmonson County Rescue Squad and to the Kentucky Emergency Management. Besides her husband, she leaves to honor her memory— her children, Chip Lee of Brownsville, Tiffany Lindsey (Faron) and T.J. Norman served in the U.S. Army, and was a Korean War veteran. He was a former electrician for Louisville Gas and Electric, was a farmer and a member of Shively Masonic Lodge #951 F&AM. Norman was a faithful member and deacon of Wingfield United Baptist Church. Doris worked for many years as an office administrator, and was of the Baptist faith. She leaves to honor her memory-- four daughters, Donna Bartley (William) of Leitchfield, Cheryl Crawford (Richard) of Leitchfield, Angel Burden (Zachary) of Leitchfield and Barbara Payne (Kenneth) of Jasper, TN; two sons, James Haven (Judy) of Tacoma, WA and William Haven (Linda) of Springfield, TN; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased in death by her children, Robert Haven and Linda Haven and her siblings, Earl Albin and Ruth Edfords. Interment will be in Tom Cook Cemetery. The Edmonson County native enjoyed fishing, riding his moped, yard sales and drawing and coloring pictures to give to others. He was a son of the late Ewing Stoy Lashley and Lucy Helen Lindsey Moore of Grassland, who survives. He was preceded in death by a brother, Anthony Lashley; a sister, Holly Raymer; and two nieces, Amy Lashley and Carla Davis. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Holly Springs Cemetery. Visitation will take place 11:00 AM-1:00 PM Thursday. Also surviving are two brothers, Freddie Lashley (Mary) of Horse Cave and Sidney Lashley (Glenda) of Brownsville; two sisters, Rita Wortham and Vickie Ashley both of Grassland; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Zachary Dale Cottongim, 29, passed away suddenly on December 18, 2021, while selflessly performing his duties as a Louisville Metro Police Officer.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Patsy and Johnny Shillito, and Betty and Wayne Maggard; and mother-in-law, Kellie McKenzie. Zach graduated from Edmonson County High School, and went on to receive his degree in Criminal Justice from Daymar College. He was a seven year veteran of the Louisville Metro Police Department, and was assigned to the 1st Division. His dad, Dale, is also an LMPD officer, and Zach was so proud to have followed in his dad's footsteps in becoming an officer, fulfilling his dream. Zach also proudly served as a PTO (Probationary Training Officer), and aspired to someday work as an LMPD traffic officer. He loved the teamwork within 1st Division, its command staff, and his patrols with his best friend, Shaun Sargent. He was a “tech nerd”, enjoyed fishing, and loved playing with his sons. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Jamie; sons, Riley and Alexander; father, Dale Cottongim; mother, Pamela Perkins; step-mother, Natalie; step-father, Laymon Hodges; father-in-law, Timmy Decker; brothers, Kase Cottongim and Kyton Smith; sisters, Erica Ellis (Jordan), Jessica Jones (Chad), and Ashley McFelia; nephews, Oaklee Ellis and Carson McFelia; and nieces, Remi Ellis and Arieal McFelia. Maple Bledsoe Kidd, age 84 of Bowling Green, departed this life on Wednesday, December 18, 2021 at her residence. She was born on February 25, 1937 in Edmonson County to the late Hughie and Ethel Cowles Bledsoe. She was married for 66 years to Rev. Herbert Donald Kidd, who survives.
Maple retired from the Warren County School System and was a member of Rocky Hill Baptist Church. Besides her husband she leaves to honor her memory-- daughter, Brenda Kay Rice (Todd) of Bowling Green; son, Don Kidd of Lafayette, IN, two grandchildren, Caleb Fife (Mikayla) of Smiths Grove and Ginger McOwen (Joshua) of Guthrie; and two great-grandchildren, London McOwen and Luke McOwen. Pearl (Hogan) Cherry, 85, was born in Edmonson, Kentucky on October 12, 1936 and entered Heaven's gates on December 18, 2021. She was a member of Sweeden Missionary Baptist Church in Sweeden, Kentucky.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandma and great-nana. Pearl retired from Floyd Memorial Hospital after over 17 years of dedicated service. She enjoyed making quilts, searching yard sales or thrift stores for that perfect buy, Kentucky basketball and above all else, spending time with her family and friends. Pearl's entire world revolved around her great-grandchildren. Her smile would light up a room when she saw one of her precious angels. She was preceded in death by her husband, William James Cherry; parents, Johnnie and Corda Hogan; brothers, James, Leonard, Elmer, Otha, Oliver Hogan; and sisters, Oren Sowders and Oma White. Pearl is survived by her children, Ronnie Cherry (Liz) of Charlestown, Indiana, Johnie Cherry (Sheri), Donnie Cherry (Carla), Kim Schmidt (Tom), Anita Philpot (Terry), all of Greenville, Indiana; brothers, Roma Hogan (Shirley) of Louisville, Kentucky, Roy Hogan of Roundhill, Kentucky; sisters, Jane Frost (Bill) of Indianapolis, Indiana, Jean Lindsey (Stanley) of Taylorsville, Kentucky; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
