10/17/2024

Picture
Ray Douglas Neal, affectionately known to his friends and family as “Jim Buck” left this world on October 16, 2024, at the Edmonson Health Care Center in Brownsville, KY, at the age of 93. The Monroe County native was born on July 11, 1931 to the late Buck and Ada Stone Neal.

Jim Buck was a man who embraced life and cherished the relationships he built along the way. He and his loving companion, Bessie Crenshaw, spent over fifty years together, until they were parted by her passing. During this time, he grew close to her family and loved them as his own.

As a young man, Jim Buck relocated to the Beckton Community, where he devoted his life to farming alongside the Morris Furlong family until his retirement. His work was not merely a job; it was a passion that allowed him to nurture the land while also fostering connections with those around him. Known for his warm personality, he found joy in chatting with everyone he met. Whether he was working on the farm, attending Poplar Grove Baptist Church, tending to tobacco crops, mowing yards, or planting flowers, his ability to engage with people made ordinary moments extraordinary.

He leaves to honor his memory— his children, Eva Ann Neal and Otis Ray Neal, both of Glasgow; three grandchildren, Anita Ann Neal, James Ray “Happy” Neal (Sherry) and Randy Depp; a great-granddaughter, Hydei Depp; two great-great grandsons; Bessie’s children, Lynn Sesler (Mike), Vickie Haswell, Wendy Partain (Todd) and Marketta Ring (David), along with their children and a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends who will miss making memories with Jim Buck. Besides his parents and Bessie, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Rosie Neal; two sisters, Pearl Neal Franklin and Gladys Neal and four brothers, J.B. Neal, Faye Neal, Roy Ed Neal and Raymond Neal.

Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
