Virgie “Granny” Salings, 83, of Brownsville, departed this life on Monday, September 8, 2014. The Edmonson County native was born April 9, 1931 to the late Roby and Gurtie Elmore Huff. She was caregiver and a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Rochelle, IL. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Haynes (Tommy) of Glasgow, KY; three sons, Phillip Huff of Morgantown, KY, Philander Phelps (Rhonda) of Sikeston, MO and Tim Phelps (Amy) of Asheville, NC; three brothers, Gus Huff (Shirley) of Bowling Green, KY, J.R. Huff of Big Reedy, KY and Dagwood Huff (Rosie) of Roundhill, KY; three sisters, Betty Cherry of Bowling Green, KY, Beverly Smith of Morgantown, KY and Mettie Pogue (Jerry) of Central City, KY; twenty three grandchildren; forty two great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Pretz; one son, Simon Peter Phelps; one grandson, Desmon Haynes; one great-grandson, Dakota Lyn Haynes and one sister, Hazel Denham. Interment will be at Independence (Slate Bank) General Baptist Church with Bro. Roger Poynter officiating the services.
