Letter To The Editor: More Little League Concerns

6/15/2015

Dear Editor,

For the past seven years our family has enjoyed spending our late spring and summer months at the ball park in Edmonson County.  The time we spend there is full of laughs, cheers, high fives, and skill development for the kids. We have served as parents, fans, coaches, and dugout mom/dad. We have won games. We have lost games.  The time we have spent at the ballpark will forever be cherished memories for our family.  Hundreds of families in our community have experienced the same.

As the 2015 season has drawn to a close it has been brought to our attention that it is the intention of the Edmonson County Judge Executive and Fiscal Court to consider removing their backing of the EC Little League Baseball/Softball and Basketball programs.  While there are a variety of reasons for this consideration, we represent the primary reason against such action – the CHILDREN of Edmonson County.

The Fiscal Court will meet at 9:00 am on Monday, June 22 at the Edmonson County Courthouse.  We encourage any community member who is in support of the continuation of the current Little League programs to attend.  This meeting is not intended to be a negative meeting in which complaints are aired, rather an opportunity to demonstrate the strong support we have for the only program Edmonson County has available to such a vast portion of our children.

As parents and community members it is our responsibility to be the voice for our children.  Your attendance is vital to convey to our community leaders just how important this program, and their involvement in the program is.  There are hundreds of little ball players all across Edmonson County counting on you.

Sincerely,
Jeremy and Brooke Vincent

It is my wish that the funding remain for the children of this county. Our children and grandchildren need this. It would be a shame to lose this. As a child growing up in this county there was nothing like this to offer. Don't take a step backward, find a way to keep the funding.

I also agree that our county leaders need to find and continue the funding for their support of our Little League teams. It is basically the only things our county offer for our children. Not only does it give them something to do, it also helps to prepare them for the future by teaching them responsibility as a team member, how to work and play as a unit instead of an individual, and also teaches them sportmanship. It woukd be a shame to lose the one thing that the county supports foe it's children.
