Please Be Patient With Road Construction

8/13/2014

Darren Doyle, Edmonson Voice

If you've recently driven out Highway 743 in Chalybeate during the school rush hour, then you've also experienced the road construction project that's been going on since early May. You've probably been frustrated, or worse, when you've gotten behind a backhoe or a service truck, but try to relax. A wise old brick layer once told me, "If you want a good omelette, you gotta break a couple of eggs first."

If the county is going for a good omelette, then they've got broken eggs from Elmore's old grocery store  all the way to the Dollar Store. That's ok with me, though. I take both of my daughters to school every morning, and I not only encounter the horrible drivers who have yet to figure out the school parking lot, but the construction delays, too. Once the project is completed, hopefully in the summer of '15, we'll all have a big, new, wide road, big enough to support all the school buses PLUS the folks who will never catch on to smart and/or courteous driving. That will make all of our travels on that road much easier, safer, and quicker. So, for now, try to wade through the egg yolks, even though they're getting about waist-deep. It will soon be time for the omelettes, and who doesn't like a good omelette?

Much healthier way to look at road construction! If only we could all view every backset we have during our day with this kind of attitude! Eloquently put!
