Edmonson Notches Second District Win a Row With 61-50 Take Down Of Raiders Darren Doyle, story: Madison Doyle, photos: Turnovers began piling up once again for the Wildcats against Trinity in Whitesville on Wednesday and it looked like the Raiders were on their way to their third consecutive win over the Cats with an 18-7 lead early in the second quarter, thanks to an 8-0 run from Trinity. While the temperature outside continued to drop, Nick Clemmons was heating up inside the gym. He buried three, 3-pointers in a 16-6 run that changed the momentum of the entire game and cut Trinity's lead to 24-23 at halftime. Clemmons finished with 17 points on five 3-pointers. Both teams battled in the third and Edmonson County took a 38-37 lead going into the fourth. Despite battling through turnovers (20) the Wildcats were able to keep their offense going when they needed it. Thanks to equally high turnovers from Trinity, (21) Edmonson County went on another run, this time a 12-2 stretch that was capped off by another three pointer by Clemmons to give the Cats a 54-46 lead with 1:30 left. Sophomore Chaz Wilson and junior Dalton Decker hit free throws down the stretch and Edmonson County was able to hold off for the win. Even though the Wildcats supplied plenty of fire power through their offense, Coach Mac said it was possible as a result of their defense.
"I gotta credit our defense," he said. "They stepped up. We got a lot of stops and that makes it easier." He also joked about Clemmons' big 3 to cap the run with 1:30 to go. While it was a big shot, it wasn't what Mac had called for at the time. "It was one of those 'no, no, no--great shot,'" he joked. "We wanted to run more clock there and then get a layup, but he's capable of making big threes, him and Griff (Spainhoward) both. They hit some big ones in the first half that cut it to one for us, and it was just a team effort. They did a heckuva job and they're so fun to coach. There's some things we gotta fix before Friday and the tournament, but hopefully we're getting there." Other scoring for the Wildcats was: Decker 10, Wilson 10, Spainhoward 8, Pierce 8, Booker 6, Woosley 2. It was also another double-double for Chaz Wilson. Despite only finishing with one field goal, he grabbed 11 rebounds on top of his 10 points. Edmonson County is now 10-11 on the year and like the Lady Cats, could grab the number one district seed with a win over Grayson County on Friday night. The G/B doubleheader at Grayson on Friday is scheduled to tip at 6pm. You can listen to the audio and watch video stream only on the Edmonson Voice beginning at 5:50pm

Edmonson Girls Eyeing Number One District Seed Darren Doyle, story: Madison Doyle, photos: The third time was indeed the charm in Whitesville Wednesday night as the Lady Cats defeated the Trinity Lady Raiders 51-45. It was the third try to play the game, as it had been rescheduled twice before as a result of inclement weather. Single digit temps and subzero wind chills had fans questioning whether or not this one would be played, but things worked out nicely, especially for Edmonson's Katie Lindsey, who led the Lady Cats with 17 points, and Emma Rose Vincent, who added 15 points and 14 rebounds. A solid start helped Edmonson County grab an early lead (18-11 after one quarter), which was just enough to withstand a few tough runs by Trinity and a 27-point performance by freshman Lady Raider guard Cassidy Morris. After the first quarter, Edmonson County only outscored Trinity by a single point. "Emma Rose came to play for the third straight night, man," said Coach Bart Weaver. "She's played really well, and I'll tell you what it is: it's confidence. It's her third big game in a row and she bailed us out tonight."
Weaver said he told the girls at the half (with a 27-22 lead) that it looked as though they were playing like a tired team. "In a district game, if you're tired, you've got to find something in your heart or gut to just gut it out, and I thought they did that in the second half. We've had, gosh--four games in five days? And we've got three more to go in our stretch of 7 games in 10 days. We're going to get to work on Grayson tomorrow. We're not going to go real hard, but we've got a lot of stuff to do, some preparation for them, and we'll hopefully get some rest. We've got to play better Friday night than we did tonight." In the remaining box score for the Lady Cats: Harrison 9, Ballance 4, Logsdon 3, Goad 3. A win over Grayson County on Friday will guarantee the Lady Cats the number one seed in the District 12 Tournament, which will be hosted at Edmonson County beginning February 19th. They will be a tie for number one with a loss. Edmonson County is now 16-7 on the season. The G/B doubleheader at Grayson on Friday is scheduled to tip at 6pm. You can listen to the audio and watch video stream only on the Edmonson Voice beginning at 5:50pm Hot Start Pushes Cats To Victory Darren Doyle, story: Moriah Peterson, photos: Junior center Eli Booker scored a career-high 21 points in a physical match against Butler County Friday night that helped Edmonson County to a big 72-65 District 12 win in front of a full gym in Brownsville. Booker's 10 first-quarter points helped the Cats off to a hot 21-12 start, but the Bears certainly didn't intend to make a quick exit. They bounced back with a 17-13 run in the second to cut Edmonson's lead to 34-29 at halftime. Patience on the offensive end and low turnovers helped the Wildcats limit runs from Butler County in the second half as Booker, Dalton Decker, and Nick Clemmons provided fire power against their cross-county rival. It was also a special night for former team members of the 1973, 74, and 75 Wildcat Basketball teams--the only teams to win back-to-back-to-back district championships, and the only Edmonson County boys basketball team to ever repeat as district champs. Team members, cheerleaders, coaches, and managers were recognized at halftime and a plaque was accepted by former assistant coach Gerald Meredith on behalf of the late Coach Dave Denton. Denton's coaching and the teams' successes were said to have led to building of the legendary 1976 State Championship team. The rivalry between Edmonson and Butler County during those times was so great that games between the two teams had to be played in a sold-out Diddle Arena. The group received a standing ovation from the home crowd. In addition to Booker's 21, Decker added 18, Clemmons had 12, Mason Pierce scored 9, Chaz Wilson added 6, Trent Taylor scored 4, and Griffin Spainhoward scored 2. Coach Mike McClintic discussed the Wildcat effort and the second consecutive game with 11 turnovers--tying a season low. "I'm really proud of them," he said. "They came out and did what we practiced. Butler's a heckuva team. We don't match up real well with them as far as man-to-man, but we made some adjustments and the kids did a real good job. I could tell at halftime that after they made that little run at us that we were getting a little tight. But I thought we came out the second half, established ourselves again, and we went from there."
After off days on Saturday and Sunday for the Wildcats, they'll prepare for another District 12 match against Trinity on the road on Wednesday, a game which has been rescheduled twice due to inclement weather. They are also scheduled to play at Grayson County on Friday, another district game. "You know I'm really happy for the kids. Eli played great. We were getting him the ball where he could do a lot of damage." Edmonson County is now 9-11 on the season. Lady Cats Win 50-38 Darren Doyle, story: Moriah Peterson, photos: It not may not have been the prettiest of the season, but any team is happy with a district win, and that's what the Lady Cats were able to do against the visiting Butler County Lady Bears 50-38, despite being rusty after 11 days since their last game. Edmonson County shot a dismal 17% from the field during the first half (a season low) but being able to win the rebounding battle and equally bad shooting from Butler County was enough to give them a 17-11 lead at halftime. Things improved somewhat in half two, but Edmonson County was still only able to muster up 28% from the field for the entire game, 1-11 from behind the arc (11%) and only share a team-low 6 assists. The bright spot for the Lady Cats was that they dominated the boards, swiping a team-high 44 rebounds. The team's leading rebounders Lauren Ballance (9 points) and Madison Harrison (7 points) each finished with 12 apiece. Four different Lady Cats had at least 5 rebounds or more. Point guard Katie Lindsey led Edmonson County with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Emma Vincent finished with 8 points and 6 rebounds, Chanley Logsdon scored 7, and Mia Goad had 2.
"It's a win, and we're sure not going to give it back," said Coach Bart Weaver. "I've got to give Butler County credit, they came out and beat Trinity last week, they scouted that game and got 'em a district win. They came out hungry tonight, point blank--we just couldn't make a shot." Weaver said he kept telling his team that the shots would finally go, but the way you win a game like this was by your defense and rebounding. "Just pound them on the boards, and we did do that," he said. "Forty-four rebounds may be the best we've done so far, and we also hit free throws down the stretch." Edmonson County improves to 13-7 on the season and is scheduled to take on Daviess County on the road on Saturday. They are now 3-1 in District 12 play. Wildcats Win 66-63 in Overtime Darren Doyle, story:
Both Edmonson and Metcalfe County fans got their money's worth in Edmonton last night, but it was the Wildcats who cashed in at the final buzzer as they defeated the Hornets 66-63 in overtime, thanks to some huge shots when the Cats needed them the most. Plagued by turnovers all season long, Coach Mike McClintic has been adamant about getting his team to take better care of the ball. "Turnovers are killing us," he said before the game. "I get tired of saying it, but we're beating ourselves. We simply have to take better care of the ball." In each of the contests lost by Edmonson County, they've put up anywhere between 20-30 turnovers. In their wins this season, turnovers have been under 20. Last night's contest resulted in only 11 turnovers for the Cats. Coach Mac was unsure of how his team would respond after being off for four days due to illness and weather conditions, but he said he was happy with Monday's practice. Some would argue his team needs more four-day breaks, followed by one good practice, according to the 17-11 start that EC had last night. The Cats continued their pace as they took a 30-18 lead at the half, thanks to only four turnovers, by crashing the boards, and keeping the Hornets out of the paint. Metcalfe was a dismal 1-10 from the behind the arc in the first half. The Hornets adjusted in the third as they were the ones crashing the boards. Several second-chance buckets, along with a couple of big three-pointers during a 17-8 run allowed them to cut Edmonson's lead to only 38-35 going into the fourth. Metcalfe County tied the score at 47 with 4:16 to go. Each team traded baskets when with a one-point lead, the Hornets burned about 45 seconds off the clock and scored with 44 seconds left in regulation, which gave them their biggest lead of the ballgame at 54-51. On the next possession, junior Nick Clemmons buried a three on the left side to tie the score at 54 with 34 seconds to go. Metcalfe was able to burn a few more seconds off the clock when Hornet senior Tyler London drew a foul on the Wildcats' Chaz Wilson, who attempted to draw a charge. London hit both free throws to put them up two with 7.8 seconds left in the game. Mason Pierce in-bounded the ball to junior Dalton Decker who went coast-to-coast and off the glass to tie the score as the buzzer sounded to force overtime. Metcalfe struck first in the overtime but teams continued to trade baskets. With the score tied at 60, senior Griffin Spainhoward notched his first points of the game as he nailed a three from the corner to give the Cats a 63-60 lead with 1:00 to go. Metcalfe County's London answered with the same on the other end to tie it at 63 with 43 seconds remaining. The Wildcats ran their offense out of a timeout to run the clock all the way down to 3.7 seconds as Clemmons once again performed Wildcat heroics with a three pointer to give the Cats the lead. It was Clemmons' 4th three pointer of the night. Metcalfe County was forced attempt a half court shot, which was blocked by Dalton Decker as the Cats celebrated the win. "We let them back in -in the second half. We got away from the things we were doing," said Coach Mac after the game. "We got in a hurry, got some turnovers and maybe rushed a few shots, but overall, we didn't quit. They battled back and just played hard. I thought they made some real good decisions coming down to the end there, especially in the overtime." Leading the Wildcats was Chaz Wilson with 26 points and 7 rebounds. Clemmons added 14, Pierce had 10, Decker scored 7 with 5 rebounds, Daniel Woosley added 6, and Spainhoward had 3. "I'm happy to get out of here with a win and I'm so happy for the kids," said McClintic. "We had a great practice yesterday. We were off for four days and hadn't been in the gym--which maybe good for them, to keep them away from me--you know, that may have been a part in this tonight, but I love them kids. They give me everything they've got, every day they do. We emphasized that you play like you practice, and we had a great practice yesterday." The Wildcats are now 8-11 on the season and are scheduled to take on Butler County at home on Friday night in a District 12 G/B doubleheader that will also honor the 72-75 teams that won back-to-back-to-back district titles.
We're back! Join us for a special edition of the show as we discuss Dave Denton's career as Wildcat Basketball Coach at Edmonson County High School. Coach Denton had quite an impressive basketball history and led the Cats to District Championships in 1973, 1974, and 1975. Gary Meredith is our guest as we reflect on a memorable time in ECHS athletics.

Multiple Lady Cats & Cheer Team Members Named To All-Tournament Teams, Scholarships Darren Doyle, story: Debbie Gail Doyle, photos: The size and length of the Owensboro Catholic Lady Aces was too much for the Lady Cats to handle last night in the All A Region 3 Classic championship game held at Hancock County, as Edmonson County fell 63-38 on Monday night. The smallest player on the court for the Lady Aces most of the night was a 5'8" guard; the other starting four were 5'11" or taller, including a 6'0" guard, MacKenzie Keelin. Catholic even brought a 6'3" reserve player into the game late in the contest. The effort on behalf of the Lady Cats was like it is every night: 100%; however, the 5'2" Katie Lindsey had trouble with dribble penetration due to the long reach of the Lady Aces. A double-teaming trap from Owensboro seemed more like a sticky net, which stifled Edmonson's offense all night long. No Lady Cat reached double figures. Coach Bart Weaver described not only the size and length of the Lady Aces, but also the way in which they could get up and down the floor was "unbelievable." "They're impressive. They're really an impressive group," he said. "They just pretty much took away the things we were trying to do. It got to the point where we were trying to spread the floor, try to drive, kick, and create. That's about the only thing we could do tonight. But the main thing is, and I preached this to them the entire game, was 'don't quit.' And they played hard the entire four quarters. So to do that, to get to these finals, to get runner-up, and lose to this good team, I'm proud of my girls. They've had a lot of games here in the last couple weeks so they really deserve a couple days off." Edmonson County fell behind early 15-7 after the first quarter and trailed 36-14 at the half. A very solid third quarter from the Lady Cats cut the lead to 47-24 going into the fourth, but O.C. wouldn't allow them to come any closer as the Lady Aces went on to win their 13th All A Region 3 title in 14 years. Edmonson County broke their streak at 12 in a row last year as the Lady Cats claimed the 2018 trophy. In the box score for the Lady Cats: Logsdon 9, Lindsey 6, Harrison 6, Ballance 5, Vincent 5, Vanmeter 3, Goad 2, McCombs 2. Edmonson County players and cheer team members were also named to All A Region 3 all tournament teams. Katie Lindsey and Chanley Logsdon were honored from the Lady Cats, and cheer team members Chloe Collins and Mackenzie Jones were also honored. In addition, Logsdon was not only named to the All Academic team, but also was presented with the Region 3 $1,000 scholarship. She applied for the award in October and after she was chosen as a finalist, she was invited for a final interview at Eastern Kentucky University and later won the award. Edmonson County is now 12-7 on the season and Monday night's game marks the fourth consecutive year as an All A Region 3 finalist. They are scheduled to take on Trinity in Whitesville on Monday night in a makeup game from earlier in the season. Girls will tip at 6pm with boys action beginning afterward. You can watch the video stream live from the Edmonson Voice beginning at 5:50pm.
Edmonson Dominates Frederick Fraize 70-36 Darren Doyle, story: Madison Doyle, photos: The Edmonson County Lady Cats advanced to their fourth straight All A Classic Region 3 finals after moving past Frederick Fraize, also known as Cloverport, 70-36 in the semi-finals, hosted by Hancock County. The Lady Aces were simply outmatched by Edmonson County in the one-sided contest, as they struggled to stop dribble penetration from Lady Cat point guard Katie Lindsey. Lindsey finished with 20 points (18 in the first half). Edmonson jumped out to a 17-8 start despite going 0-5 from behind the three-point line. The 3-pointers came later as the team finished hitting 8 of 21. They also shot 51% from the field and 82% from the free throw line. Two other Lady Cats finished in double figures: Mia Goad had 11 points and 7 rebounds, and Lauren Ballance added 10 points and two rebounds.
Nearly everyone with game minutes landed in the score book. Chanley Logsdon finished with 9 points and 3 rebounds, Emma Vincent had 6 points and 5 rebounds, Shea Vanmeter had 5 points and 2 rebounds, Josi Morrison had 4 points and 6 rebounds, Madison Harrison finished with 2 points and 9 rebounds, Maci McCombs had 3 points and 3 rebounds, and Jaedlyn Simon finished with a rebound and a steal. The Lady Cats will take on Owensboro Catholic on Monday night at 7pm for the All A Region 3 Championship game; the winner of which will advance to the All A State Classic. It's the first opportunity for Edmonson County to win back-to-back titles in school history. Last season was the first All A Region championship claimed by the Lady Cats. They went on to advance to the semi-finals in last year's state competition. The All A is not affiliated with the KHSAA region and state tournaments (Sweet Sixteen). It's designated for schools with small enrollment numbers and allows them the chance to compete with similar schools from their respective regions. Smaller schools have a far less chance of advancing deep in their KHSAA region and state tournaments. The Edmonson Voice will carry both the video stream and audio broadcast from the WildcatsLive crew on Monday night with the pregame show beginning at 6:50pm. Edmonson Falls To Trinity 67-61 In All A Classic Region 3 Tournament Darren Doyle, story: Madison Doyle, photos: A huge three-pointer from Dalton Decker with 11.5 seconds to go in regulation tied the game at 56, but it wasn't enough momentum to push the Cats through in overtime against the Trinity Raiders in round one of the All A Region 3 Classic. Each team traded punches from the opening tip until overtime with multiple lead changes and several ties, but as turnovers plagued both teams (23 each), Trinity was able to execute their plan first as they clung to a late lead. The Wildcats were forced to foul in the final minute and the Raiders hit their foul shots down the stretch to claim the 67-61 win. "We came out ready to play tonight. We got us a lead, but daggone it man," said Coach Mac, who was clearly frustrated. "But when you play hard, and they played hard, but 23 turnovers...that's the difference, they came at bad times."
It's been a sore spot for Edmonson County all season long. Two Wildcats turned out double figures; led by Decker with 18 points, 4 rebounds, and 8 assists, Griffin Spainhoward added 13 points and 5 rebounds, and Mason Pierce scored 8 points while grabbing 5 rebounds off the bench. When they needed a bucket, it didn't fall. When the call could go either way, it went the other way; however, Trinity's execution was better and when something was needed on their end, it seemed to go that way. "The kids that got in, they did their job," said Coach Mac. "Some of them played two minutes, some of them played 32, or whatever, but we have to take better care of the ball. We took some shots when we shouldn't have been taking them, and we threw the ball--well, it just goes back to turnovers again." The remaining box score is: Eli Booker 8, Chaz Wilson 8, Nick Clemmons 6. The Wildcats are now 7-10 on the year. They aren't scheduled to play again until Friday, January 18th on the road at Hart County for a JV/V match with JV action beginning at 5:30pm. Edmonson County Wins 68-46 Darren Doyle, story: Madison Doyle, photos: A strong start from the Lady Cats set the tone in round one of the All A Region 3 Classic in Whitesville on Thursday evening as Edmonson County defeated the Lady Raiders 68-46. Led by senior Chanley Logsdon's 22 points and Madison Harrison's 13 rebounds, the Lady Cats ended the first quarter leading 19-9. They stamped out a near carbon copy in quarter two to take a 40-18 lead at the half. Prior to game start, Coach Bart Weaver was concerned with the health of their leading scorer and rebounder Lauren Ballance, who suffered a strained hamstring on Tuesday against Logan County. She was cleared to play with a brace, but Weaver knew she wouldn't be at 100%. "I challenged the team to step up. I told them that somebody has pick up the slack," Weaver said. "Lauren still got out there and put forth the effort as always, but it's really big when our girls step up the way they did tonight." So who stepped up? According to the stat sheet, everyone did. Logsdon burned the nets once again with a five, 3-pointer night and a perfect 3-3 from the line. She also finished with 4 rebounds. Harrison added 5 points, but her 13 rebound performance is the second double-figure rebounding performance in three games. She also notched 3 blocked shots.
Katie Lindsey put up 16 points and dished 4 assists, Ballance added 6 points and two rebounds (4-4 from the line), Mia Goad scored 10 with 4 assists, Emma Vincent had 4 points and 5 rebounds, Maci McCombs added 3 points and 4 rebounds, and Josi Morrison added 2 points. Edmonson County shot 50% from the field and blistered 66% from behind the arc. They also had a season-low 6 turnovers. They advance to round 2 of the All A Region 3 Classic, which is scheduled at Hancock County, Saturday, January 12th for a 5pm tip, where they will take on Frederick Fraize (Cloverport). You can watch the live video stream on both EdmonsonVoice.com and the Edmonson Voice Facebook Page. The audio broadcast will be available on the site as well. The Lady Cats are now 11-6 on the season. Monroe County Overcomes Big Deficit To Win 59-58 Darren Doyle, story: Madison Doyle, photos: A 17-point lead slipped away from the Lady Cats Saturday at the Ken Byrd Classic at ECHS as Monroe County powered their way back to defeat Edmonson County 59-58 in overtime. A solid start from the Lady Cats put them in a good position for success with a 14-6 first quarter. The beat went on in the second quarter and Edmonson County enjoyed a 35-21 lead at the half, led in part by senior Chanley Logsdon's 12 first half points. Half number two was a different story as Monroe refused to go away and the Lady Cats slowly allowed them back into the game. The Lady Falcons started crashing the boards and they figured out a way to stop the bleeding from 13 first half turnovers. Monroe County only turned the ball over three times in the second half and cut their deficit to 11 going into the final quarter. Just before their surge, Edmonson County led by as many as 17 points in the third quarter. Edmonson County went ice cold in the fourth quarter, allowed Monroe County to have open looks at the basket, and struggled with rebounding as the Lady Falcons outscored the Lady Cats 15-4 in the fourth quarter. Logsdon was held scoreless in the second half.
Monroe County took a 52-49 lead with a couple of free throws with a minute to go. On the next possession, Edmonson's Mia Goad nailed a three in the corner to tie the score with 48 seconds left. Monroe had chance to win at the end of regulation but a missed shot at the buzzer forced the game to overtime. The extra period began with the Lady Cats taking a 56-52 lead but foul trouble for the second night in a row for Edmonson County allowed Monroe opportunities at the free throw line and the score was tied at 57 with 45 seconds left in overtime. On the next Lady Cat possession, Logsdon drove to the basket and drew plenty of contact, but was assessed with a charging foul. Monroe's Ella Massingille knocked down both free throws to give the Lady Falcons a 59-57 lead. Mia Goad was fouled on the next possession and hit one of two free throws to cut the Monroe's lead to 59-58, which would be the final score. Lauren Ballance led the Lady Cats with 15 points and 7 rebounds and Logsdon added 12 points and 5 assists. Katie Lindsey scored 11, Mia Goad added 9, Madison Harrison added 8, and Emma Vincent had 3. The Lady Cats are now 10-5 on the season and are scheduled to take on Logan County at home on Tuesday, January 8th at 6pm for a JV/V girls game only. Second Half Comeback Not Enough As Cats Fall In District Match Darren Doyle, story: Madison Doyle, photos: A rough start by the Wildcats was too much tough to overcome in a 62-59 loss to the Trinity Raiders on homecoming night, despite a valiant comeback effort in the second half that had Edmonson County fans biting their nails at the final buzzer. Edmonson County struggled with early turnovers--8 in the first quarter--that resulted in a 10-0 start for the Raiders. The Cats finally got a little offense going, but trailed 18-10 after one. Second chance opportunities allowed Trinity to extend their lead in the second quarter and the Wildcats trailed 38-22 at the half. The second half effort by Edmonson County was second to none, led by junior Mason Pierce, who scored 12 of his 16 points in the second half. Pierce's push helped shift the momentum back towards the Cats as they outscored the Raiders 18-8 in the third quarter and cut the lead to 46-40.
Another 10-6 run by the Wildcats to start the fourth quarter cut the Raider lead to 52-50 as Griffin Spainhoward drove the baseline with a basket, forcing a Trinity timeout with 5:27 left in the game. That lead was cut again as Dalton Decker buried a three with 3:05 to go as the Wildcats trailed 58-57. Two very physical plays that resulted in Wildcats hitting the deck failed to get a foul call as Edmonson fans were scratching their heads with just over two minutes to go; however, Trinity was able to draw a foul on the other end with 1:46 remaining. They missed the front end of the bonus and the Wildcats took possession as the ball was knocked out of bounds. A miscue from the Cats allowed Trinity to regain possession on a turnover and draw another foul. After two made free throws from Trinity, the lead was extended to 60-57, and yet another turnover by Edmonson County resulted in the same, with the Raider lead 62-57 with :55 seconds to go. Chaz Wilson scored on a basket with :40 seconds left to inch closer at 62-59. Edmonson County would still have an opportunity to extend the game after two missed free throws from the Raiders. The Wildcats had the ball with 10.8 seconds to go. Nick Clemmons' three point attempt missed but Chaz Wilson grabbed the rebound. Wilson dished back out to Clemmons again, but another three-point attempt rattled in and out. Dalton Decker was able to tip the ball, but it missed at the buzzer as Edmonson County fell. Coach Mac discussed the effort from the Wildcats that was almost an amazing comeback. "They took my challenge at halftime, went out in the second half and played as hard as they could," he said. "We had some costly turnovers at some bad times and a couple of defensive breakdowns, but I'm extremely proud of the way they came out in the second half." McClintic said while the will of his team in the second half is a positive, it's still a tough district loss where turnovers--once again--hurt them. Coach Mac said getting behind early to a good team like Trinity usually doesn't end well, despite the comeback attempt. "Those turnovers led to some points for Trinity but every kid that got in the game and the bench, they stayed up. Yes, I was a little heated at halftime and I had to challenge them. They accepted my challenge and they came out here and done it." Four different Wildcats landed in double figures. In addition to Pierce, Dalton Decker had 12, Chaz Wilson had 11 points and 12 rebounds, Clemmons added 10, Trent Taylor had 4, Eli Bookier had 3, and Griffin Spainhoward and Jon Smith added two each. The Wildcats fall to 6-9 on the season and are 1-2 in district 12 play. Their next game is scheduled for Monday, January 7th at Thomas Nelson for a varsity-only match with tip set for 8pm. Lady Cats Enjoy District Win On Homecoming Night Darren Doyle, story: Madison Doyle, photos: Senior Lady Cat Chanley Logsdon drained six 3-pointers Friday night against the Trinity Lady Raiders in a career high 25- point performance that led Edmonson County to a 67-54 win on homecoming night. Despite the whistle party that slowed the pace of the entire game--resulting in 69 total free throws shot between the two teams, Edmonson County was still able to find some offensive rhythm led by Logsdon's shooting and a powerful display by sophomore forward Lauren Ballance. Ballance also impressed with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Free throws kept Trinity in the game--42 attempts--for pretty much the entire contest and would've given the Lady Cats even more trouble had they shot better than 62%, as Edmonson held a 13-10 lead after the first quarter.
A big second quarter from the Lady Cats set the pace for the remainder of the game as they outscored Trinity 24-13 in the quarter and compiled a 37-23 lead at the half. Edmonson County shined at the free throw-fest, hitting 23 of 27 of them for 85% shooting. Coach Bart Weaver pointed out that there were several things that needed work as the girls continue district play, but it was a good win for his team and he was glad to see Logsdon's offense coming along. "She's got the green light to shoot and she knows that," he said. "She was big for us tonight." He also said he'd have to check further into Lady Cat records, but he felt like six 3-pointers could be close to a school record. The remaining box score for the Wildcats was: Katie Lindsey 9, Mia Goad 6, Emma Vincent 4, Maci McCombs 4, Madison Harrison 2. The Lady Cats are now 10-4 on the season and 2-1 in district play. They are scheduled to take on Monroe County in the Ken Byrd Classic on Saturday at 5:30pm. You can listen to the WildcatsLive Broadcast audio feed beginning around 5:20pm.
