Edmonson Voice Sports: On Thursday, September 22nd, the ECHS cross country team held their final home meet of the year at Chalybeate Park. The first race was the middle school girls race. While Edmonson County didn’t have enough runners score as a team, all individuals finished in the top 5, led by Hannah Clarie Cassady finishing 1st overall. She was followed by Molly Johnson (2nd) and Ellie Claire Spainhoward in (4th). The next race was middle school boys, where Edmonson County’s team won the meet by defeating Breckinridge, Metcalfe, and Allen Counties. The team was led by Aidan Meredith (1st), followed by Jasper Young (2nd), Jack Browning (7th), Zander Garrett (8th), Eli Prunty (10th) and Jack Lich (12th). Edmonson County's girls then held their varsity meet where they also won over Allen, Breckinridge, and Metcalfe Counties. The race for first turned out to be competitive between Breckinridge's top runner and Lady Cat Cariann Williams. While Williams finished second, she ran one of her fastest career times at 16:20. “Our girls ran great today and I saw some competitive fire out of some of them that I have been waiting on all season," said Head Coach Brad Meredith. "They brought it today. We beat three teams that will compete in their regions and probably qualify for the state meet. Allen and Breck are a class above us and they have very good teams." The last event was the boys varsity race. Before the race Coach Brad Meredith took a moment to recognize Senior Brandon Shane Lindsey. Lindsey has been a part of the team for three years. “Brandon Shane is a walking billboard for what cross country is all about," said Coach Meredith. "He has put in the work to become one of the best runners in our region. Running on his own this summer, pushing in our workouts, having a great attitude and willing to compete. It showed today as he won and dominated a very good field of runners.” “I’m always proud of our kids," Coach Meredith Continued. "Cross Country is hard. It takes a special athlete that is willing to compete for three miles. This race stood out to me in that I thought all of our kids competed. We have been talking about it all year, when we have our top five that are being competitive, we have great teams."
