Edmonson Voice Sports:
Twelve team members of ECHS Track and Field qualified to move on to state after their recent success in the regional meets. The team traveled to Green County on Tuesday for the 3rd Region competition, where several Edmonson County individuals or teams scored personal bests for the season, and placed in the top five in ten different categories. Automatic qualifiers for the state meet included Kasey Webb, who claimed the region title in shot put, and the boys 4 x 800 relay team, which finished regional runner up. That group consists of Landon Frainch, Tanner Bates, Tyler Brooks, and Ashton Johnson. Other qualifiers included Haley Shields in shot put, Cariann Williams in high jump, Blake Talley in pole vault, and Ashton Johnson in the mile run. Edmonson's boys placed 7th out of 18 teams, while the girls placed 9th out of 18 teams. “We have one of, if not the hardest regions in the state," said ECHS Head Track and Field Coach Brad Meredith. "It is so competitive from top to bottom, and there are multiple state champions from our region." Meredith added that the tough competition is a positive thing because it brings out the best in his team. He said failing to rise to the occasion could be embarrassing. "I am very proud of our athletes because they responded to that level of competition. We have a great group of kids on our team and I couldn’t be happier for them. They have worked hard for this moment and most performed the best they have all season.”
