Darren Doyle, story and photos: The Lady Cats fell to the Allen County-Scottsville Lady Patriots in two sets (25-21), (25-21), last night at ECHS for the 2019 season opener for Edmonson County volleyball. During set one, the Lady Cats made plenty of errors that led to an early 8-0 run by ACS that forced an EC timeout at 9-2. While Edmonson County found some offense, the Lady Patriots still found a way to control the tempo of the set, which prompted another timeout by the Lady Cats at 22-11. Edmonson County scored the next point out of the break but ACS quickly grabbed the next two. From there, the Lady Cats went on an impressive 9-0 run to cut the deficit to 24-21, but the Lady Patriots found a hole and punched through for the final point of the set. Edmonson County responded differently for the start of the second set as both teams went back-and-forth with three ties and no lead greater than three when the Lady Cats called a timeout as they trailed 17-14. EC scored the next two points after the timeout to pull within one, but a strong 8-0 run from ACS put the set and the game out of reach for Edmonson as the Lady Patriots won the final set 25-18 and the game 2-0.
Edmonson County now goes on the road for their next 10 games and will travel to Glasgow tonight for a freshman, JV, and varsity match, which is scheduled to begin at 5pm. The Lady Cats are 0-1 on the season.
