Edmonson Voice Sports: Alyssa Doyle, photos: A three-run homer by junior Edmonson County pitcher Julie Norris in the 5th inning against Butler County brought the Lady Cats within two runs but it wasn't enough as the Lady Bears' firepower was too much during the District 12 match. The Lady Bears got things started with the first batter of the game blasting a solo home run for a 1-0 lead. The score remained the same until the top of the third when Butler singled with two outs. The next batter doubled, scoring a run for a 2-0 Butler lead. Edmonson County couldn't score in the bottom of the inning and Butler County broke things open in the top of the 4th. After a single and a double, a sac fly scored another Lady Bear run, then a walk and a single brought in another one. Another sac fly and a single scored two more for a 6-0 lead. In the bottom of the 5th, Edmonson's Kylee Williams singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Abigail Hogg. After a strikeout, Jolee Vincent drew a walk and Kaylee Ann Sanders singled to center, scoring Williams from second while Vincent advanced to second. Norris then crushed a three-run homer to center, narrowing the lead to 6-4.
That would be the highlight of Edmonson County's offense as Butler County was able to put 6 more runs on the board over final two innings for a final score of 12-7. Norris was 2-4 on the night with 3 RBIs, Mikayla Hogg went 2-3, and Emma Price was 2-2 with an RBI. Norris also pitched the full 7 innings, giving up 6 earned runs on 14 hits, with two walks, and striking out two. Edmonson County has two games remaining in the regular season before the district tournament play begins. They are currently 13-12 on the year and finished 3-3 in District 12, behind Trinity (5-1) and ahead of Butler and Grayson, each 2-4.
