Coleton Parsley Throws First Pitch, 8U All-Stars State Runners-Up Recognized Darren Doyle, story and photos: The 2019 Edmonson County Youth League baseball and softball season got underway this morning at the HWY 70 Sports Complex in Brownsville as Coleton Parsley threw out the first pitch in a pregame ceremony. The 2018 8U All Star team, which was last year's state runner-up, was also honored during the ceremony, where they were brought on field with the banner that will be on display at the park. Coleton made a miraculous recovery from a serious sledding accident in early 2018 that almost claimed his life. He received thunderous applause after throwing a perfect pitch. The National Anthem was performed by local youth Alyssa Lindsey while local Boy Scout Troop 597 presented the colors on field. Parsley threw his first ceremonial pitch to Cooper Vincent. Vincent was not only a member of last year's 8U All-Stars, but also the winner of his age group in the 2018 Sectional Competition held at Bowling Green Ballpark last June, which allowed him to compete at Great American Ballpark, home of the Cincinnati Reds. Edmonson County Parks and Rec Programs Director John Kiernan said it's always a good day at the annual season Jamboree ceremony.
"So many of our kids learn how to play sports in our county youth leagues," he said. "Over the past few years we've really worked hard to better our programs and facilities. Our local baseball and softball board works all year long to provide these opportunities for our kids and we feel like it's the best it's ever been. The fields are in great shape and we're looking forward to another great year."
