Lady Eagles 87 Lady Cats 84
The Lady Cats got things started last night in Brownsville as ECHS hosted Ohio County in a girl/boy doubleheader. It was a high scoring affair as 4 different Lady Cats scored double figures. It was pretty much an even match as ECHS faced a 5 point deficit at halftime, 47-42. The Lady Cats were laying it all on the court as they cut Ohio County's lead to 66-65 after the third, but couldn't overcome the awesome three point shooting of the Lady Eagles in the 4th as they lost, 87-84.
Multiple Lady Cats put up solid numbers as Caitlin Simon led the way with 33 points and 10 rebounds. She also went 6-6 from the free throw line. Brandi Lindsey and Peyton Martin also impressed as Lindsey scored 11 points with 10 assists, and Martin added 12 points with 9 rebounds and 6 steals. Jhonna Basil helped the cause while adding 10 points of her own. Other Lady Cats contributing were Madelyne Taylor with 8 points and 9 assists, Rachael Duncan and Maddie Cline each scored 3 as Tori Browning and Katlin Collins each scored 2. It was a very solid performance from the Lady Cats, they simply fell a bit short.
Wildcats 79, Eagles 65
At the boys game, EC fans saw the Cats take control in the second half as they defeated the Eagles 79-65. ECHS started off in the hole again, a problem that they've experienced many times this season, as the Eagles jumped out to a 19-13 lead. The Cats pulled to within three at halftime with the score 32-29. The momentum shifted back to EC in the third as the boys outscored Ohio County 26-18, putting the Cats on top, 55-50. A slam dunk by Chase Turley, a quick steal, and another Turley basket caused the fans to erupt and the Cats never looked back.
Offensively, the Wildcats were led by Dakota Woodcock with 20 points and 5 assists. He also shot 92% from the free throw line, going 11-12. Hunter Buttram had a fantastic game himself, scoring 18 and grabbing 13 rebounds, while going 3-6 from three point land. Chase Turley added 15 points and 8 rebounds to the win. Cuban Sowders contributed 14 points and 5 rebounds, and Cole Bedwell impressed with 10 points, 8 rebounds, going 4-4 from the free throw line.
The Wildcats will host Fredrick Fraize (Cloverport) tonight at ECHS in a JV/V game. Tipoff is scheduled for 6pm. The last regular season home game is scheduled for Friday, Feb 20th against Greenwood. The Wildcats will host the 12th district tournament the following week.
