Hey Mongoose,
Have you noticed a trend of businesses closing in brownsville? the prescriptions shop, the hardware store, i think a carpet shop and now the pizza place is for sale. what the heck? Dear Chamber of Commerce, Economics 101: the #1 goal of ANY business is to make money. If a business isn't making money it's out of business. The last eight years have been hard on small businesses. Countless new regulations have drained profits, with one of the largest being Obamacare. Health insurance is not a right, it is also not free. For that matter, nothing in this world is free. When something is mandated, this becomes a business expense to someone. When your expenses are greater than your income, you're not making money. This seems elementary to me but to Washington bureaucrats who've never balanced a checkbook (let alone run a business) their opinion is to get over it and pay up. A business has the choice of increasing the price of their goods/services to cover the increased expenses or shut the doors. The pizza place, carpet shop and the rest do not set the prices of what they sell--we the consumers do. The consumer will only pay so much for these goods/services. When we stop paying, the businesses are out of business. If you don't like what's trending in Brownsville dig a little deeper and hope the next 4 years are more business friendly.
