  • How do I sign up for the Edmonson Voice?
You don't. Just visit edmonsonvoice.com from any computer, smartphone, or tablet. Our news is available 24/7 and is updated most everyday. We promote the links to each update we make on our Facebook Page and we also have a free app from the Apple App Store and Google Play.
  • How can you offer this service for free?
You can thank our advertisers and sponsors for that. Because of great local businesses and companies that want to support what we do, we can bring you our news with no subscription fee. Our revenue is 100% sponsored and locally ad-based.
  • I always seem to have problems with my newspaper subscription, why is this?
We are not a printed newspaper, so we have no idea. We have no affiliation with any printed newspaper. The best advice we can give you is stop paying for a newspaper and click on the Edmonson Voice for free, your number one source for local news and info.
  • Is it okay for me to download or screenshot your work for my own use? Since it's the internet, I also copied and pasted some of your published work. This is okay, right?
No, it's not okay, and it's against the law. Many people think that you can swipe photos and information from social media and websites belonging to others simply because it's the internet and not on printed material. This is absolutely wrong. It's not just plagiarism, it's copyright infringement, and our original material, which includes written material, photographs, and videos, is protected by law. Others have stolen and used our material without permission--and it cost them. If you would like to use our material for any reason, contact us and ask permission. It's very likely we'll honor your request; we simply ask for proper attribution. Don't steal it and claim it as your own. We most certainly will go through the proper legal channels to protect our material.
  • How much notice do you need before you publish material sent to you?
We do our very best to relay information to the public asap and that often means it's the same day. However; we ask for two business days notice before material should be published if possible. We're constantly working on other news and information. Send us your info and we guarantee we'll get it out there faster than anyone else, but a two-day window works well for us.
  • Someone told me about an article I should read but I can't find it. Is it gone?
Probably not. Most every story ever published on edmonsonvoice.com is still there. Think of the site as huge stack of news articles. When we publish a new one, it just goes on top. The others are there, just scroll down to find it. Still can't find it? Just go to our search bar on the homepage and type in the keywords. We sometimes delete old articles if they are no longer relevant or updates have occurred since first publishing.
  • How do I listen to or watch a game on your site?
That's super easy. All ECHS Football games along with most boys and girls basketball games are broadcast on our popular show, "WildcatsLive" here on Edmonson Voice, and there's more than one way to get there. The easiest way is look for anything that says "WildcatsLive." Just look for the logo and click. You can also choose "Sports" from our menu and select "WildcatsLive" from the drop down.
  • Can I send you an obituary?
We only accept obits from licensed funeral homes. Local funeral homes send us obits automatically, so if you need one published from there, it's already on the way. If you'd like one published from an establishment outside of Edmonson County, contact the funeral home directly and ask them to send it to us.
  • You left out a name on my family/friend's obituary, will you please edit it?
Sometimes edits need to be made to obituaries, but since the funeral home writes the obit under the direction of the family, the funeral home has to be the one to make the edit, then they will send it to us. Even if the edit is simple, the funeral home has to make the change first, then we will do the same at the direction of the funeral home.
  • Why was my comment not published on the website?
We require all who comment to provide their first and last names along with their email address before comments are published. This ensures us that you're a real person and not a spam computer or scam attempt. We are also not a gossip site, so you must be willing to put a name with your comment. Our readers sometimes leave a great comment, but they fail to add their last name or their email address, so it's not published. Email addresses are not made available to the public.
  • My pet is missing, will you please put an ad out there for me?
No. It's not because we don't love pets...we love our pets, but we can't verify this information. Here are two examples we experienced: 1. We published a missing dog ad for a lady, and the dog was found and returned...however, several contacted us and informed us that the lady who placed the ad wasn't the actual owner of the dog, so she ended up with a dog that belonged to someone else. 2. Another lady asked us to announce she'd found a dog and wanted to find its owner. Someone called her and claimed their dog...but guess what? Turns out the person who picked up the dog wasn't the rightful owner and the actual owner blamed us. You know the old saying, "this is why we can't have nice things?" Well, unfortunately, because of the liability, we no longer share missing or found pet information.
  • Why was my comment deleted from your Facebook post?
We welcome all opinions and discussion, however, everyone must adhere strictly to our commenting policy. We don't allow profanity, negative comments directly toward specific individuals, or anything we know to be incorrect or false. We are a family-friendly organization and reserve the right to delete anything that deters from that. In addition, we don't allow negative comments or trolling of paid business or political ads within our network.
  • Why was I banned from your Facebook page?
We get hundreds of interactions per day on our Facebook Page. Since we're a family-friendly company, we review every single action. Here are reasons we ban readers: use of profanity, excessive attacks on our material or individuals or groups, threats, hate speech, excessive trolling, hateful or abusive comments, trolling of a political candidate, or just general excessive complaining that "baits" or fuels negative conversations on our page. We'll also block you if you refuse to pay for an ad that we've placed for you.
  • That story you published is about someone I know and I don't like it. Will you take it down?
Short answer? No. There are just over 12k people in Edmonson County and no matter what goes into the news, there's a good chance the subject matter or individual(s) are going to be known by large groups of people. In order to be fair, we report matters that we feel impact our readers, no matter who might be named. Reporting news in small towns is sometimes challenging because everybody knows everybody else; however, we have a job to do, and that's to relay all information we feel is most relevant to the majority of our readers. If we publish incorrect information in an article, we'll make changes accordingly once verified from an official source; otherwise once we publish an article, we'll stick with it.
  • I don't want photos of my vehicle accident published, so I'm not going to give you permission to use them. (or)
  • You don’t have my permission to take pictures of this fire on my property.
Although this is not a question, it's a comment we've heard before, but it doesn't apply to what we do. Legally taken and/or obtained photos by the Edmonson Voice belong to the Edmonson Voice and can be used by the Edmonson Voice without permission. Federal, state, and county roads are public places and we will exercise our First Amendment right to cover accidents, cover fires, take photos, and publish information that we feel is relevant to the public. It's also important to note, we also have the right obtain space in, and to take photos from the right-of-ways. These are areas in front of homes that meet the road, usually in grass. In most of these cases, roads are temporarily shut down. Not only does the public have a right to know about these situations, we have an obligation to tell them.
  • Why haven't you written an article on ______________!?
It's possible we already have. 1. Check our headlines first. Most times we've already published the very thing you're suggesting, you just haven't seen it. 2. Try our search bar. Type in the keywords and see if anything has been published. 3. Please ask us, don't demand it. We'll be glad to make every attempt to bring you the info you need, just ask.
  • Are there any updates to this particular story?/Who was in that wreck? etc.
If we have this info, we'll be sure to publish on our site and let everyone know. We get tons of messages during the week where people ask us direct questions that might not have been covered in a particular article (yet). We will not give any individual any information that we haven't already published. When we have something to publish, we'll do our best to do it quickly, accurately, and we'll let everyone know ASAP.
  • Instead of that, y'all need to do this: ________________________!
That pretty much guarantees that we're not going to do ________________. We're happy to take your suggestions. Just please let us know respectfully.
  • I like the idea of internet media, but I don't do Facebook. Can I still read the Edmonson Voice?
You sure can. We only post links to our stories on Facebook, not the actual story itself. Stories are published to our site first. We only use our social media pages to help promote our material.
  • Why is the power/water service/internet/etc. out?
We get calls, emails, and messages like this every week. Sometimes we have the answer, sometimes we don't, but we won't privately give you this information if we haven't yet published the info. That info will be released to the entire public at once if there is a need. Sometimes these things happen and it's not news. Most times those services are restored before we even have a chance to gather the info.
  • Can anyone place an ad on the Edmonson Voice?
Pretty much. With prices starting around $30 for individuals, we can just about accommodate every need. We recently placed a Help Wanted Ad for a local company and within two minutes of it being published they had received a request for an application. We do yard sale ads, items for sale, all the way up to complete yearly ad packages. All our ads are capable of being linked to a site, Facebook Page, or email address, and it's accessible right in your pocket. You could probably stuff a newspaper in your pocket if you tried hard enough, but clicking on it only gets newspaper print on your finger. Just call our office or email us for more information. We normally have plenty of space available for individuals and sponsorships; however, we reserve the right to refuse any particular ad or sponsor for any reason.
  • Why would you charge me just to put my yard sale on your website or Facebook? I mean, it's just the internet, right?
It might be "just" the internet, but there's much more to what we do than that. It takes all sorts of resources to bring you the info you need. We've worked tirelessly for nearly a decade to build Edmonson County's first-ever internet news source and our platform is valuable. Do you work for free? Probably not. We really don’t want to, either.
  • What options do you have for placing free ads?
Since we have no subscription fee, we rely on ad sales and sponsorships to fund our network, however, we give discounts for some ads and you can always announce an event for free on our VOICE Calendar. Just contact us and let us know what you need.
  • How do I contact you?
You can call our office line at 270-597-6550, or send us a text. You can also email us at: [email protected] or send us a direct message on our Facebook page. Our office hours are M-F 9am-5pm, but we can be reached via email or message most times after hours in case of emergency or breaking news.
  • Where was that ambulance going?
For the last time...we have no idea.
