The Edmonson County Historical Society will meet on March 21, 2024, at the Edmonson County Library at 6:00pm. Guest speaker will be Edmonson Voice founder Darren Doyle who will be speaking about the Ferguson family, the subject of his recent article.
The Edmonson County Extension District Board will hold a meeting Tuesday, March 26, at 5:30 pm at the Extension Office.
Backyard Conservation is a program for Edmonson County (only) homeowners to receive assistance in installing conservation practices at their homes. The program is a 25/75 cost share with reimbursement up to $100.00. Applications Received until 4/19/24 or program limits are met, be sure to apply early. You must apply to be considered for reimbursement, there is a limited amount of funds for this program. Commercial Growers are not eligible for items for resale. Projects must be completed by 5/31/24, Receipts must be dated after January 1 2024. Applications will be accepted at the Conservation District Office at 100 Washington Street Brownsville or via email at johnson.barbara@mediacombb.net call the office at 270-597-2761 for more information.
Backyard Conservation projects eligible for reimbursement are:
· VEGETABLE PLANTS AND SEEDS, INCLUDING SEED POTATOES
· Raised Vegetable Garden Beds (construction and soil)
· Purple Martin Houses
· Fruit Trees
· Small Fruits (blackberries, strawberries, blueberries, etc)
· Rain Barrel
· Compost Bins
Don’t Miss Out! The Edmonson County Cooperative Extension Office has scheduled a Farmer’s Market Training Meeting for March 21st , 2024, at 6:00p.m. The meeting will be held at the Extension office. Edmonson County Senior (60+) Food Commodities: The Brownsville Senior Center currently has openings for the Feeding America Senior Food Commodity boxes. This is an income-based program for seniors 60+ and includes a pre-packed food box and 3lb box of cheese once a month. At this time there is no waiting list, so if you, or someone you know qualify, you will receive a food box immediately. Call the Senior Center at 270-597-3116 to apply. There are a limited amount of spaces available so call as quickly as possible to see if you qualify.
Edmonson County residents age 60 and over can qualify for free curbside meals Monday-Friday at the Brownsville Senior Center located at 280 Ferguson St. (beside the Library). This program is provided by Community Action of Southern Kentucky and is available to our seniors and income guidelines do not apply.
