Robert S. “Bobby” Cannon, Jr., age 80 of Wingfield, was surrounded by his family when he peacefully departed this life at his home on Friday, March 15, 2024. The Edmonson County native was born on October 5, 1943 to the late Robert “Bob” Cannon, Sr. and the late Violet Lorene Elmore Cannon. He was married to his loving and devoted wife of forty-nine years, Gloria Faye Cannon, who survives.
Bobby was saved at the age of fourteen during a revival in Shepherdsville, KY. He served our country as a pipefitter for the U.S. Navy. He was aboard the U.S.S. Brooke during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he took to farming and continued working as a pipefitter. Besides his wife, Gloria Faye, he leaves to honor his memory— three children, Mary Houchens (J.J.) of Roundhill, Angela D. Cannon (Walter) of Bowling Green and Kevin Cannon (Kim) of Needville, TX; nine grandchildren, Ariel Kendrick (Grant), Kelsey Appleby (Israel), Sarah Appleby, Adrian Cannon, Jada Burris (Joey), Kayla Burris, Megan Cannon, Darrin Cannon and Bianca Cannon; six great-grandchildren, Kaedyn, Elijah and Emma Kendrick, Olivia Perry, Abigail Dennis and Sean Rayne Claborn, III; two brothers, Wilmer Sherrill Cannon (Laverne) and Glen Ray Cannon (Betty); several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, along with his caregivers from Hosparus that his family truly appreciated, Tara, Maggie and Mark. John Gary was a member of Poplar Spring United Baptist Church, and sang bass with his family quartet, The Madison Brothers, for countless church and funeral services. He served our country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era, and through the prayers of his mother, Lucille, God permitted him to return back home to his family. He owned and operated Madison & Associates insurance agency for many years. John Gary was a former District Deputy Grand Master of Grand Lodge of Kentucky; a past Patron of the Order of Easter Star and past Noble Grand with the Odd Fellows Lodge. Jerry was born to Veachel and Catherine Stewart and was raised in South Community in Brownsville, Ky. Jerry was the oldest of five; the brother to four sisters. His sisters remember him as fun-loving and full of energy. He graduated from Edmonson Co. High School in 1968 and began working in construction with his dad immediately thereafter. Jerry loved working with his father in construction and on their family farm. He joined the National Guard and served 1969-1975. While working in construction he was promoted to the construction superintendent. He later moved backed to South and met his wife, Brenda, in 1992. They have been married for over 30 years. He became a grandfather in 2012 and cherished time with his four grandchildren. Specifically, the grandkids loved spending weekends with their grandparents and they loved when he would get out his guitar and sing nursery songs with them and made a game of letting them pull on his mustache to prove it was real. Jerry was also a dedicated member of South Union General Baptist Church. His church family would describe him as devoted to God and the church. He gave his life to Christ in 1960 and was baptized in a creek near his family home. He also served as the Song Leader at South Union General Baptist following in his father’s footsteps when his father passed away in 2009. He made it his job to get to the church early to heat it in the cold months and cool it in the summer in preparation for the congregation. Jerry was happiest when surrounded by his family and friends. Jerry is survived by wife, Brenda, two step-children, Rachel Steckler and Charlie McGee, grandchildren: Dylan (11), Ruby (9), David and Hunter (4). He is also survived by many loving family members: His four sisters, Brenda (Keith) Lindsey, Saundra (Alan) Davis, Teresa (Garrett) Thornton and Charlene Embry along with many nieces and nephews: Chad Woodcock, Charity Mills, Allison Embry, Shauna Tyndall, Lauren Miller, John Lindsey, Sarah Pierce, Gabrielle Thornton and many great nieces and nephews. Sonny spent his younger years on a farm in Bloomfield, KY then moved to Louisville after the death of his father. He worked for International Harvester (Navistar) and later retired from the company. He has always loved hunting and especially fishing. He and his wife moved to Nolin Lake where he and Terry loved the lake life for 22 years, then moved to Bowling Green in 2003. Sonny was also an avid WKU Volleyball Fan. Survivors are his wife Terry (Daniel) Hudson, six children Bryan Hudson (Brooke), Todd Hudson (Caroline), Travis Hudson (Cindy), Bruce Hudson, Tammy Bush (Bob) and Stephanie Underwood. Donna worked as a housewife and took care of all the needs of her family, who she adored. She was a member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. Besides her husband, Todd, she leaves to honor her memory— her children, Amy Saunders (Kyle) of Rocky Hill and Chris Mosher (Daniel) of Louisville; three grandchildren, Landon, Karsyn and Kynlee Saunders and four siblings, Michelle Coffey (Robert), Stephen Hubbard (Teresa), Louis Hubbard (Sammy) and Alvin Hubbard (Lisa). She was also preceded in death by her precious granddaughter, Madison Saunders and three brothers, Tim, Jim and Daryl Hubbard. A service will be scheduled at a later date. Joseph “Bobby” Carnes, Sr., age 86 of Bee Spring, was surrounded by his loving family at his home when he departed this life on Friday, February 16, 2024. The Hart County native was born on December 30, 1937 to the late William Edward and Ethel Carnes. He was married to his best friend and help mate of fifty-three years, Judy Saling Carnes, who survives.
Bobby worked for many years as a welder for Boilermakers Union #S20. He was a faithful member of Fairview United Baptist Church, until his health began to fail. He truly loved his spiritual and natural families, and was the rock that their family leaned and depended upon. Besides his wife, Judy, he leaves to honor his memory— his children, Debbie Jaggers (James) of Mammoth Cave, Bart Helson (Lynn) of Scottsville, Tony Carnes of Big Clifty, Sherry Gibson (Kevin) of Brownsville and LaDonna Houchin (Rick) of Bowling Green; twelve grandchildren, Brandon Jaggers (Jennifer), Chad Jaggers (Jacklyn), Jessica Jaggers, Joey Carnes (Lindsay), Chris Helson (Heather), Ben Helson (Danielle), Alex Helson, Wendy Bonds (Brad), Kyle Carnes (Tiffany), Brandon Carnes, Dustin Hadley (Jenna) and Gabe Clark; twenty great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; his sisters, Betty Skaggs, JoAnn Burkhead and Joyce Nibblen, along with several in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his sons, Joseph “Bobby Joe” Carnes, Jr. and Jeffrey Allan Carnes; his step-mother that raised him, Margaret Carnes and his brothers, James, Allen and Delbert Carnes. Sandra was a member of Sunny Point General Baptist Church. She had worked in the past as a certified nursing assistant for Health Care. In recent years, she started her own business, Sunfish Sales. Being “Mamaw” to her beloved grandbabies is what she enjoyed most. The Edmonson County native was a drywall finisher for Smith Interiors of Glasgow and a member of Big Reedy Church of Christ. He was a son of the late Gerald V. Clark and Pauline Hardin Clark. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Glenda Berkley and a brother, Gerald L. “Dickie” Clark. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Threlkel Cemetery. Visitation will take place 3-7 PM Monday and after 10:00 AM Tuesday. Surviving are his wife, Sherry Willis Clark; two daughters, Paula Crousore of Ellabell, GA and Caitlyn De Lucca (Nick) of Bellbrook, OH; a son, Roger Clark (Savdy) of Bowling Green; a sister, Charlene Lacefield of Roundhill; four grandchildren, Mark Crousore, Dennis Crousore, Dustin Berkley and Leona De Lucca; three great grandchildren, Riley Crousore, Donovin Crousore and Lincoln Berkley; and several nieces and nephews. Wayne Thompson, age 75 of Pig, departed this life on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. The Barren County native was born on February 24, 1948 to the late Buford Woody and Louise Wright Whitaker. He was married to his devoted wife and best friend, Cheryl Lynn Thompson, until they were parted by her death on July 21, 2016.
Wayne served our nation in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War era. He obtained his bachelor’s degree, and worked for many years as a farmer. Wayne currently served as a board member for the Edmonson County Farm Bureau, and was a former supervisor and chairman of the board for the Edmonson County Soil Conservation District. He was also a member of the Edmonson County Cattleman’s Association and Park City United Methodist Church. He leaves to honor his memory— his sons, Michael Thompson (Sherrell) and Josh Thompson (Amber) all of Pig and his adoring grandchildren, MaKaylee Thompson, Connor and Gavin Thompson. Besides his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by his step-father, Jess Whitaker.
