Jerry Stewart, 73, of Brownsville, KY left this world for his eternal home in heaven on March 4, 2024.
Jerry was born to Veachel and Catherine Stewart and was raised in South Community in Brownsville, Ky. Jerry was the oldest of five; the brother to four sisters. His sisters remember him as fun-loving and full of energy. He graduated from Edmonson Co. High School in 1968 and began working in construction with his dad immediately thereafter. Jerry loved working with his father in construction and on their family farm. He joined the National Guard and served 1969-1975. While working in construction he was promoted to the construction superintendent. He later moved backed to South and met his wife, Brenda, in 1992. They have been married for over 30 years. He became a grandfather in 2012 and cherished time with his four grandchildren. Specifically, the grandkids loved spending weekends with their grandparents and they loved when he would get out his guitar and sing nursery songs with them and made a game of letting them pull on his mustache to prove it was real. Jerry was also a dedicated member of South Union General Baptist Church. His church family would describe him as devoted to God and the church. He gave his life to Christ in 1960 and was baptized in a creek near his family home. He also served as the Song Leader at South Union General Baptist following in his father’s footsteps when his father passed away in 2009. He made it his job to get to the church early to heat it in the cold months and cool it in the summer in preparation for the congregation. Jerry was happiest when surrounded by his family and friends. Jerry is survived by wife, Brenda, two step-children, Rachel Steckler and Charlie McGee, grandchildren: Dylan (11), Ruby (9), David and Hunter (4). He is also survived by many loving family members: His four sisters, Brenda (Keith) Lindsey, Saundra (Alan) Davis, Teresa (Garrett) Thornton and Charlene Embry along with many nieces and nephews: Chad Woodcock, Charity Mills, Allison Embry, Shauna Tyndall, Lauren Miller, John Lindsey, Sarah Pierce, Gabrielle Thornton and many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, (March 10, 2024) at the South Union General Baptist Church. Bro. Jonathan Hodges will be officiating. Burial will be in the South Union Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday and at South Union General Baptist Church from 9:00 a.m. Sunday until time of services. Comments are closed.
