Larry retired as a machinist from Industrial Carbide Saw and Tool Corporation, and attended Bible Wesleyan Methodist Church. Although he was little in statue, his heart was his biggest feature. He loved racing and making memories at the race track and watching his Louisville Cardinals. Though she left school to begin working at age 14, Virginia owned several successful businesses during her life, including Pig General Store, Park City Truck Stop, and Virginia’s Frame Shop, and managed Top Value Redemption Centers in Ky and Georgia. Virginia Ruth worked hard and fiercely loved her children and grandchildren, her 10 brothers and sisters and their spouses, and many nieces and nephews and friends. Her home was opened many times to help out family and others who needed a place to live. She enjoyed decorating, repairing and landscaping her homes, cooking for her family and allowed no obstacle to get in her way when she wanted to learn some new skill for home or work. She was member of Brownsville Missionary Baptist Church. The Edmonson County native was born on June 9, 1945 to the late James Harold and Thelma Duvall Hogan.
Dwight was a U.S. Army veteran and served during the Vietnam era. He worked for years on the assembly line at Holley Carburetor, and later worked as a certified hazardous cleaner from TPM Environmental. He was a member Poplar Spring United Baptist Church. He leaves to honor his memory-- one son, Jeff Hogan (Denise) of Bowling Green; two grandsons, Blake Hogan and Chase Hogan both of Glasgow and one granddaughter, Madison Mayhugh of Bowling Green. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Christian Dwight Hogan. Interment will be in Poplar Spring Church Cemetery with graveside military honors. The St. Louis, Missouri native was born on January 24, 1949 to the late Henry George and Mary Nell Barry Thien. He was married to his loving wife, Tammy Cowles Thien, who survives.
Joe retired from General Motors, and attended Chalybeate United Baptist Church. Besides his wife, he leaves to honor his memory— his children, Joey Thien (Dawn) of Nashville, Cindy Thien of Florida, and Taylor Carroll (Chad) of Glasgow; seven grandchildren, Jacob and Jordan Thien, Madison and William Pumphrey, Dalton, Thomas, and Abel Carroll and one sister, Bonita Knickmeyer. The Barren County native was born on August 9, 1947 to the late Willie and Maedell Carey. He was married for fifty-six years to the love of his life, Phyllis Carey, who survives.
Jerry worked in electrical maintenance for SKF Industries, and was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Besides his wife, he leaves to honor his memory— two daughters, Tammy Robinson and Bobbi Taylor (Mike) of Cave City; five granddaughters, Beth Sexton (John), Christie Robinson, Molly Taylor (Zack Todd), Katie Taylor and Carey Taylor; three great-grandchildren, Hunter Sexton, Ethan Wayne Middleton and Haley Middleton; two brothers, Bobby Carey and Jimmy Carey (Hope) and several nieces and nephews. The Edmonson County native was a farmer, worked for General Electric, owned Bestway Pizza and was a member of Red Hill General Baptist Church. He was a son of the late Patrick Self and Miriam Mae Vincent Self. He is also preceded in death by two brothers, McClellan Self and Wilbur Self; and two sisters, Laverne Durbin and Norma Sanders. Funeral will be at 1:00 PM Thursday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial in Red Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-7 PM Wednesday and after 10 AM Thursday at the funeral home. Surviving are his wife, Juliet; two sons, Tracy Self (Mary Ellen) of Alvaton and Jessie Self (Maurica) of Brownsville; two daughters, Maedena Stewart (David) of Smiths Grove, and Kristal Self of Brownsville. Seven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. A sister-in-law, Lucille Self of Huff. A brother-in-law, Eddie Sanders of Brownsville. Loretta Walker, age 80 of Pine Grove departed this life on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at her residence. The Edmonson County native was born on December 23, 1940 to the late Warren West and Ethel Mae Bledsoe. She was married to the late Elmer “Hen” Meredith.
Loretta was a former seamstress at Brownsville Manufacturing and a member of Fairview United Baptist Church. She is survived by her children, Bradley Tarter of Pine Grove, Tammy Graham (Bruce) of Pine Grove and Dennis Tarter (Julie) of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren, Jeremy Graham (Ashley) of Brownsville, Jared Graham of Bowling Green, Kristina Tarter of Beaver Dam, Priscilla Towe of Wingfield and Monte Towe of Wingfield; great-grandchildren, Christian Cardwell, Hannah Graham, Chloe Graham and Cameron Jessie. The Hart County native was born on October 16, 1947 to the late Jack Barlow and Beulah Maye Doyle Ferguson. She was married to Carlos Elvin Morrison, who preceded her in death.
She was a former employee of Glasgow Pants factory and R.R. Donnelly. Jackie was a home interior decorator, Avon sales lady and enjoyed teaching country line dancing at the YMCA. She was a member of Barren County Baptist Church. She leaves to honor her memory— three sons, David Morrison (Sandra) of Park City, Jon Morrison (Lorie) of Bon Ayr and Brian Morrison (Angie) of Gallatin, TN; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Jane Morrison; sister, Jennifer Smotherman (Dewayne) and two brothers, Thomas Barlow (Malieka) and Joseph Doyle Ferguson.
