Darren Doyle, story:
There were no major changes in active COVID cases in Edmonson County for the final week of the year, according to available numbers from the Barren River District Health Department; however, numbers were only released on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week.
Active cases fell from 68 on Wednesday, December 23rd to 55 on Monday, December 28th. They rose to 58 on Tuesday, then up again to 65 on Wednesday of this week.
While calculating active cases is the most accurate way to gauge COVID cases in an area, total cases numbered were at 559 with 481 recoveries and 13 reported coronavirus deaths in Edmonson County.
COVID cases are expected to rise in some areas as a result of Christmas gatherings; however, Edmonson County saw no spike in numbers after Thanksgiving. Whether or not the county will see the same result after Christmas and New Year's gatherings remains to be seen.
The next Edmonson Voice COVID update is scheduled for Friday, January 8th unless there is a significant change in numbers over the course of the next few days.
