Darren Doyle, story and photos A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...Well, it was actually around 10am this morning and only in Brownsville, but today, students at the EC 5/6 Center received visits from some very famous Star Wars characters as they watched their "May The Scores Be With You" pre-testing motivational production. Complete with an impressive (most impressive) set that included props, authentic costumes, music soundtracks, laser lights and fog machines, the crew welcomed local celebrity Tony Rose from Bowling Green's Classic Rock D93 as he and the characters played Star Wars themed games while talking about the importance of the upcoming K-Prep Testing. "It can be pretty hard to get kids fired up over testing," Rose joked. "But EC schools, Community Ed, and the Family Resouce/Youth Service Center raise the bar each year to have something fun, and this year, I got to be a Jedi, so how cool is that?" Rose and the galactic crew spoke to the kids about getting plenty of rest, eating a healthy breakfast, and staying focused so they could do their best on the upcoming tests. Jamie Carnes, State and Federal Programs Supervisor, said Rose has always been part of pre-testing programs for Edmonson County Schools. Mr. Carnes, who is a huge Star Wars fan, played a huge part in the set up and audio of the performance, which the kids thoroughly enjoyed, along with the faculty and staff.
Rose was able to help defeat the evil Empire today as he led kids in all sorts of relay races, hula hoop stunts, and more. "We don't just talk about kids and communities," Rose added. "We're a part of it. I get to do some amazing things with my job and Edmonson County kids help make that happen." The production is set to come to other Edmonson Schools tomorrow, Friday May 6.
