Darren Doyle, story:
Edmonson County Schools are closing on March 16, 2020 and will remain closed through April 10, 2020, possibly sooner, according to a letter just issued from Superintendent Patrick Waddell. Governor Andy Beshear just announced the recommendation for schools across Kentucky to close for at least two weeks.

You can read the following letter below:
Dear Parents and Guardians,

Due to the current state of emergency and the request from Governor Andy Beshear, Edmonson County Schools will close and begin implementing NTI (Non-Traditional Instruction) Monday, March 16.  Schools will remain closed for NTI through April 10, 2020. Non-Traditional Instruction will be delivered for all students during the day while at home.  However, if the State of Emergency is lifted prior to April 10, 2020, we may resume normal school operations.

All students are required to be at school tomorrow, Friday, March 13, 2020 and will receive instructions from their teachers and principals for how NTI instruction will occur.  Detailed information for parents regarding NTI will be forthcoming.

For students wishing to continue to receive free lunches and breakfast, we will continue to offer meals and they will be provided for takeout.  We will provide a dedicated phone number where parents can call and pre-order meals on a daily basis(Monday through Friday).  We will also establish specific locations throughout the county at which parents will be allowed to pick up meals, or parents may stop by our schools to pick up meals.  Detailed information will be provided later tomorrow to all parents with specific procedures from the Edmonson County School Food Service Director, Joyce Brown.

As far as questions concerning planned school events, trips, and sporting events, please look for information from your school’s principal about whether those events have been cancelled.

We are taking these measures based on guidance from our Governor and health organizations.  Non-Traditional Instruction and cancellations are being done out of an abundance of caution and to help prevent of the spread of the COVID-19 virus.  Your child’s and our community’s health and safety are our first priority.

We have a great staff that is prepared to assist in any way possible.  As always, the Edmonson County community comes together in times of need and all of us, working together, can overcome this current crisis.

Sincerely,
Patrick Waddell, Superintendent of Schools
