Darren Doyle, story and photos Firefighters and emergency personnel responded to a fire at the junction of KY HWY 259 and Cedar Grove Church Road last night around 10pm at Donald Ray Meredith's old store building. Thanks to quick response from firefighters, the historic building was saved. The back corner of the building suffered fire, smoke, and water damage, but the old store front and the majority of the rest of the building, now used for storage, was saved. Family members said there were reports of an older, white SUV that was seen at the location minutes before someone saw the blaze and called for help. Firefighters on scene said there was no electricity to the building and no other likely explanation for the start of the fire except arson.
"I'm afraid this is the result of somebody getting their Halloween pranks started early," said family member James Lloyd Meredith. "It's a shame that somebody would try to do this." No injuries were reported. Responding to the scene were the Kyrock and Brownsville Fire Departments, the Edmonson County Sheriff's Office, and the District 2 Constable.
