by Edmonson Voice Staff What was intended to be a non-eventful criminal summons, which is simply a hand-delivered ticket and a court date, turned out to be much more. On Friday, June 5th, police made a visit to Charlie Hayes, owner of Hayes Tire on KY Highway 70 (Morgantown Road) to serve a court summons for undisclosed reasons. Police say when they arrived, they saw what appeared to be Hayes counting pills and placing them in what appeared to be a non-original container. Police then obtained a search warrant after probable cause was established for trafficking pills. Upon searching the local business, police seized an undisclosed amount of hydrocodone tablets along with empty bottles, two firearms, a bottle of pills yet to be identified, and almost $10,000 in cash. Police say that Hayes attempted to assault one officer during the search and seizure, resulting in the officer stunning Hayes with a taser. Charlie Hayes, 53, of Huff, was arrested and charged with Trafficking in controlled substance 1st degree, Assault 3rd degree, Resisting arrest. Police say there will likely be more charges to come. Hayes was transported and lodged in the Hart County Jail. The investigation was led by Deputy Jordan Jones and assisted by Deputy Wally Ritter and Brownsville Police Officer Nathan Dennis.
