![]() Edmonson Voice Staff On Monday, August 3rd, 2015, Matthew T. Carroll, 32, of Bee Spring, was found guilty in a trial by jury in the Edmonson County District Court. Carroll was accused on May 17th, 2014, of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Carroll, represented by Gary S. Logsdon, was charged after being found unresponsive in his truck behind the steering wheel. According to the citation from Deputy Wally Ritter, Carroll was passed out in the truck, and after waking up, exhibited behavior consistent with intoxication. County Attorney J.B. Hines was happy with the verdict. "We presented a strong case, and thanks to good, solid police work, I was given a good case to work with. I'm also pleased with the sentence recommended by the jury. I asked for a 12 month sentence, and they gave him a 12 month sentence," Hines said. "I hope that this deters people from driving intoxicated in the future." According to the sheriff's office, this case was a little different in that it was a drug related DUI, and involved expert testimony from a Kentucky State Police forensic scientist. According to the lab report, both Xanax and Valium were found in Carroll's system.
