Edmonson County's Number One Source For Local News and Information

Sheriff Offers Thanks For Fundraising, Also Addresses "Inaccuracies" In Local Printed Newspaper

Sheriff Shane Doyle has written an open letter of thanks to Edmonson citizens while at the same time clarifying what he said were "inaccuracies and incorrect information" published by the local printed newspaper.
To the Citizens of Edmonson County:

The recent outpouring of support has not gone unnoticed and the help we have received in our quest to purchase a K-9 was far greater than we ever expected. We received several private donations for the purchase of the animal, and then with the help of C & C Firearms and all of those that partnered with them by additional donations of prizes, the benefit raffle was an amazing success. We also thank the event's media sponsor, The Edmonson Voice, who donated hundreds of dollars in advertising to help our cause. They helped us spread the word to inform the county about our needs, and for that we are extremely grateful.

I would also like to address an incorrect headline and a misquote in the Edmonson News. The headline in this week's paper read "Edmonson gets K-9 unit." The headline is incorrect because we haven't yet purchased the dog. While we are almost there, a purchase has yet to be made.

The misquote is referring to the term "drug task force." Our Judge, who was then-Sheriff Wil Cannon and myself felt that the drug task force in which we were participating didn't best serve the needs to address our drug problem in Edmonson County. We felt that sharing officers with other jurisdictions was counterproductive and that we needed a detective in our county full-time. The Edmonson News, or "The Gimlet" published misinformation about us having a drug task force position. At no time was a drug task force mentioned, and we have not rejoined with any drug task force. All of your county tax dollars used for law enforcement are still being spent 100% in our county.  Deputy Jones is going to be a K-9 patrolman, and is receiving the proper training. However, he is not "being trained for the drug task force portion of the department," as the paper stated.

I am again so grateful for the support and love from our community and I am always honored and humbled to serve as your Sheriff. May God bless Edmonson County, the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and the United States of America.
Editor's note: "The Edmonson News" or "The Gimlet" is not affiliated with the Edmonson Voice and is a completely different company.
