If you own property in Edmonson County, it is your responsibility to pay your tax bill.  Failure to receive your bill does not relieve you of your duties to pay your tax bill.  If you haven’t received your tax bill by the second week of November, most likely it was sent to an old address or possibly lost by the US Postal Service.  Please check online at www.edmonsonsheriff.com to look up your tax bill by name or address.

  • Bring exact or close to exact change when paying with cash
  • Checks should be made to ECSO
  • Have your bill with you when you come to pay
  • Checks are our preferred method of payment
  • You can make one check for multiple bills
  • We cannot make change for large amounts
  • We have a drop-box located on the side of our office building next to the Bank of Edmonson County processing center
  • We now accept credit and debit cards. There is a convenience fee of 2.50% of the amount paid for credit cards and a 1.50% for debit cards.
  • We have a website (edmonsonsheriff.com) that you can look up and pay your bill. The same rates apply for using your credit/debit card. There will also be an option for an echeck. The fee for that is 1.95
  • We will have 2 separate lines, one for cash or credit/debit, the other will be for checks only.
  • If your bill is paid through your mortgage company, it is your responsibility to get the bill to them. We mail all bills to the landowner.
  • We cannot accept partial payments at any time.
  • November 1, - November 31 is our discount period. You will get a discount of 2% during this time.
  • December 1- December 31 is face amount.
  • January 1 – January 31 there is a 5% penalty added
  • February 1- April 15 there is a 21% penalty added
  • All payments must be postmarked or placed in our drop-box before the open of business in order to qualify for the deadlines.
  • No payments will be taken at the sheriff’s office after April 15th. At that time they are considered delinquent and are transferred to the clerk’s office.
  • If you mail your payment in send a copy of your bill or write the bill number on the check
  • Also when mailing a payment if you want a receipt you have to include a self addressed stamped envelope for us to mail your receipt back in. You may also check our website and print a receipt out once we have entered your payment.
  • If you need your mailing address changed you will need to call the PVA office at (270)597-2381
  • If you are turning 65 this year and you own and occupy the residence you are paying taxes on you qualify for a homestead exemption. This will take $36,900 off of your assessed value. For example, if your property is valued at $50,000 you will only have to pay taxes on $13,100! Call the PVA office to see if you qualify!
