A Smiths Grove woman escaped injury early this morning in a rollover crash on Fairview Church Road in Rocky Hill around 5AM. Authorities said that Rebecca Pittman (24) of Smiths Grove was traveling west on Fairview Ch Rd in a 2013 Chevrolet Spark when she told police that she met on oncoming car in her lane, causing her to swerve right. Pittman reportedly over-corrected, lost control of the vehicle, hit an embankment and overturned. Officials said the use of her seat belt greatly reduced the risk of injury. Responding to the scene was the Rocky Hill and Brownsville Fire Departments, Edmonson County JAWS, and Kentucky State Police. The investigation was led by Master Trooper Jonathan McChesney. Darren Doyle, story and photos The Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green responded to a two vehicle injury collision today at approx. 3:58 pm on Oak Hill Road in Edmonson County. Officials said that Margarett Oller (17) of Brownsville, a senior at Edmonson County High School, was operating a 2006 Saturn Ion and was traveling southbound on Oak Hill Road when she dropped off the right shoulder of the roadway and over-corrected. KSP reported that the vehicle then went into the opposing lane and struck a northbound 2011 Nissan Juke that was being operated by Courtney Johnson (26) of Brownsville. Ms. Oller was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision and was ejected from the vehicle. She was flown to TriStar Skyline Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. A six year old female passenger in Ms. Johnson's vehicle was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. The investigation is still ongoing and being led by Trooper Chris Newkirk. He was assisted on the scene by Edmonson County Sheriff's Department, Brownsville Police Department, Edmonson County EMS, Brownsville and Chalybeate Fire Department, and the Edmonson County Jaws of Life Personnel.
A landing zone for two helicopters was set up at the Edmonson County Public Library. Edmonson EMS, the Edmonson County Sheriff's Office, Brownsville and Chalybeate Firefighters, and the District 2 Constable responded to that scene as well. No other details were available. Darren Doyle, story and photos An historic county landmark is in ruins after it was claimed by a Halloween night fire that officials say was caused by arson. The Sunfish Mall, owned by Steve Yates and located at the intersection of KY HWY 187 and 238, was fully engulfed in flames around 10:30pm. Firefighters did all they could, but the building and it's contents provided far too much fuel to keep the flames going. Emergency personnel worked hard to keep the blaze controlled and away from the nearby home. Responding to the fire were the Bear Creek, Lincoln, Kyrock, and Brownsville Fire Departments, along with the Edmonson County Sheriff's Office, Jailer's Office, and Probation and Parole Office. Law enforcement officials investigated the scene and began an immediate search of the area for a certain vehicle that could possibly be a match to the evidence found at the scene. "Obviously there's no excuse for purposely setting anything on fire for the fun of it, whether it's Halloween or not," said Sheriff Shane Doyle. "This is such a senseless tragedy for a couple of reasons. One, it was a beloved landmark to the Sunfish community and this county that's now gone, and two, what looks to be some sort of prank could've seriously injured someone or even caused death." The fire is still under investigation. No injuries were reported at the scene. |
