The Edmonson County Conservation Office presented this year's conversation poster contest winners at South Edmonson Elementary on Friday, April 26th. SEES Music and Art instructor Mrs. Jessica Doyle worked with students to submit projects, where three winners from South Edmonson were chosen. Leo Lindsey won first place (center), Gunner Lee won second place, and Claire Vincent won third place.

Edmonson County High School sophomore Brayden Johnson, son of Brad and Jodi Johnson of the Bee Spring community, was selected to attend the Governor's School for Entrepreneurs. GSE was created in 2013, with help from the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet and the Cabinet for Economic Development. GSE's website states "From high school through college and into the business world, GSE empowers the dreams of Kentucky students who have the grit, drive, and passion to be Bluegrass entrepreneurs and create jobs here." Brayden was selected from hundreds of applicants from across the Commonwealth in grades 9th through 11th. Brayden is the first student from Edmonson County to be selected to this prestigious program. He will attend the three week program this summer at the University of Kentucky. Participants of the program are eligible for scholarships at 18 colleges/universities across the state of Kentucky. "ECHS is thrilled for Brayden and his family, and hopes he will be the first of many students to attend GSE," Edmonson County High School said in a statment. Edmonson Voice Report: Edmonson County 4-H hosted their county wide speech and demonstration completion on April 16th at the Edmonson County Public Library. Students competed in a variety of categories and winners will compete in the Mammoth Cave Area completion on May 2nd, where they can qualify for state competition. Ella Ruth is the Kentucky kindergarten winner of the poster contest. The theme of this year's contest was "Agriculture for a Better Kentucky." Ella Ruth will receive a $100 check from the Kentucky Agriculture and Environment in the Classroom (KAEC). She is invited to a statewide awards ceremony at UK's Kroger Field and a UK baseball game at Kentucky Proud Park. There's still time to plant your garden and we can help you get started! The Edmonson County Public Library is providing 8 starter packs of seeds for library card holders this spring season!
This is our first Little Seed Library and we are so excited to have had so much interest from the community! We are also very blessed to have some amazing community partners! The Kyrock Elementary PTO will accept nominations for two parent SBDM representatives from April 19th at 8:00 A.M. until May 3rd at 12:00 PM. Parent SBDM representatives shall be a parent, step-parent, or foster parent of a child enrolled at Kyrock Elementary for the 2024-2025 school year. The election will take place at the PTO meeting on May 6th at 3:00 PM at Kyrock Elementary. Please contact Julie Browning at 286-4013 with any questions. The Edmonson County Public Library would like to invite everyone to our Spring Vendor Market on May 4th from 9AM-1PM! This is a great opportunity to shop local artists, farmers and vendors. National Park Week Begins With Wildflower Day and Free Discovery Cave Tours at Mammoth Cave4/17/2024 Saturday, April 20th MAMMOTH CAVE, KY – Mammoth Cave National Park will kick off National Park Week with the annual Wildflower Day celebration and a day of free self-guided Discovery cave tours on Saturday, Apr. 20. The Wildflower Day activities begin at 8:30 a.m. CDT and the Discovery Tour will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public with no tickets or reservations required.
Naturalists and park rangers will guide Wildflower Day guests on hikes along several park trails and provide kid's crafts and Junior Ranger activities throughout the day. There will also be a display of native wildflowers that have been harvested from outside the park by the Warren County Garden Club at the visitor center. Wildflower experts will be on hand to answer questions about the plants and provide suggestions on the best trails to see what is currently in bloom. Visitors can also view locally made quilts at a quilting demonstration that showcase textile artistry, creativity, dedication, and regional cultural heritage. The free Discovery tour is a self-guided experience through some of the cave’s largest passageways. Visitors will explore the history and geologic origins of the Mammoth Cave system. The tour begins at the Historic Entrance of Mammoth Cave and is approximately 3/4-mile in length. The route requires participants to walk down and up a steep hill as well as navigate 160 steps. The National Park Service welcomes and encourages everyone to form connections to important places that protect and preserve our shared landscapes, history, and culture and that reflect the diversity of our country’s shared heritage. National Park Week is an annual national celebration for people to discover and enjoy this remarkable network of natural, cultural, and recreational sites including Mammoth Cave National Park. Mammoth Cave’s annual Wildflower Day falls on the first day of National Park Week and focuses on the wildflowers and blooming trees that treat park visitors to colorful displays along park trails, roadways, and forests each spring. The annual event highlights the importance of wildflowers for our human history and environmental health. MAMMOTH CAVE, KY—Mammoth Cave National Park will host a volunteer cleanup event on Saturday, Apr. 20 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. CDT in honor of Earth Day and National Volunteer Week. Participants will spend the morning cleaning litter and debris along park roadways, trails, and visitor use areas, such as campgrounds and picnic areas.
Volunteers will meet in front of the Mammoth Cave Visitor Center between 7:45 a.m. and 8 a.m. to check-in and receive orientation and a safety briefing. Participants should wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes, long pants, and bring their own water, snacks, gloves, and sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses). The park will provide insect repellant, cleaning supplies, and safety gear. While volunteers of all ages are welcome to attend, participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. The Earth Day Volunteer event is an outdoor activity that is dependent on weather conditions. Please check the park’s volunteer website for updates closer to the day of the event if severe weather is predicted. Earth Day began in 1970 out of the modern environmental movement and now engages more than 1 billion people in the stewardship of our planet. National Volunteer Week was established in 1974 and recognizes the contributions of volunteers. It has grown exponentially each year, with thousands of volunteer projects and special events scheduled throughout the United States. To keep with the goals of Earth Day and National Volunteer Week, event volunteers will assist park staff in the ongoing environmental stewardship of the park by helping to keep the roadways, trails, and visitor use areas free from litter. Edmonson County Schools have requested the following open letter be published to request letters of interest for professional architectural services and for construction management resources. The letter reads as follows: NOTICE OF REQUEST FOR LETTERS OF INTEREST FOR PROFESSIONAL ARCHITECTURAL SERVICES AND FOR CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT SERVICES Edmonson County Schools is requesting a letter of interest for architectural services for the renovation and expansion of South Edmonson Elementary School. Edmonson County Schools is also requesting letters of interest from qualified construction management firms for the renovation and expansion of South Edmonson Elementary School. Edmonson County Schools is also requesting a letter of interest from qualified construction management firms for the construction of a new Kyrock Elementary School. Y'all ready for the best time?? We will be having an outdoor Dinosaur Encounter! This includes large dinosaurs that your child will be able to see up close! The program is one hour and includes a fun 40 minute program and then a 20 minute "meet and greet" so parents and kiddos will have the opportunity to get a souvenir shot with the dinosaurs!
