Story and Slideshow: Darren Doyle, story and photos: Hundreds attended the 2019 Back To School Bash at Edmonson County High School this evening, an annual event for county schools, organized by the Edmonson County Family Resource Centers, Youth Services Center, and Community Education. "We are very excited for the start of another school year and the Back To School Bash is something we try to organize to get students excited, too," said Morgan Esters, Youth Services Center Coordinator. More than 40 vendors were on hand to distribute school supplies, candy, and other goodies. Parents were able to register kids at school using a new online system for the first time. Organizers estimated that the crowd was the largest that the event has ever seen, with lines backing up around the gym, through the cafeteria, and down the hall.
Each school in the district also had representatives educating attendees about their respective schools and programs. A problem with the air conditioner resulted in extremely hot temperatures in the gym, but the students didn't seem affected. Colored folders were being handed out at one vendor's booth, which suddenly became very popular. "Folders make great fans," one mother said as she waved one across her face. Esters and other Youth Services Center staff handed out door prizes throughout the event. "We want to extend our thanks to all our vendors and volunteers that made this event possible," said Esters. "We look forward for another school year."
