Edmonson Voice Staff The annual Edmonson County Memorial Day Ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 28, at 9:30 a.m. and hosted by the Disabled American Veterans and Auxiliary. The event has been changed to Saturday this year for a joint ceremony of Memorial Day and dedication of the Veterans Memorial Wall. Guest speakers will include Rep. Each year on Memorial Day, the DAV Aux program includes recognition of one or more featured veterans in order to pay tribute and remembrance of them for their service. This year the featured veteran will be Warren P Hayes, US Army Infantry WW II, who served from 1943 to 1945. Mr. Hayes participated in campaigns in Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland, receiving the Purple Heart twice for his wounds, and is listed in the Purple Heart Hall of Fame in Washington D.C. Warren married Irene Durbin and resided in Sunfish where they raised 11 children. Weather permitting, the event will be held on the courthouse lawn. Lawn chairs are recommended. In case of rain, the event will be moved inside the community center. For more info, please call Maurita Miller, DAV Auxiliary Commander at 270-246-3967.
