Edmonson Voice Report:
The Edmonson County Chamber of Commerce held their "Fall Cookout on the Square," on Saturday, September 24th.
The Chamber provided meals for anyone stopping by that included hot dogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chips, soft drinks and homemade chocolate chip cookies.
Chamber board members grilled, prepared, and served the food at the event that saw dozens of people throughout the event.
Newly hired Chamber Coordinator Kayla Childress served nearly all the dishes on Saturday in her first official event, and many locals enjoyed speaking with her.
"We were grateful to have the opportunity to serve so many people on Saturday," she said. "The Chamber is really focused on serving our local business community right now, and this was something extra we wanted to."
The event was free and sponsored in part by Rafferty's, Patton Funeral Home, Bank of Edmonson County, Edmonson County Tourism, A Plus Family Healthcare, and Alford's Pharmacy.
Chamber Vice President Josh Casey of C&C Firearms said not only did the Chamber members enjoy providing the meal, but they were also able to purchase nearly all of the supplies used at the event from Chamber members and local businesses.
"The goal of the Chamber is provide support for our local business community and this was just a way to say thanks to not only our Chamber members, but also our community members as well," he said.
The unused food items were donated to Genesis Healthcare Edmonson Center and the Edmonson County Senior Food Pantry.
Childress is currently putting the final touches on the annual Chamber of Commerce Golf Scramble, which will offer over $2,000 in cash and prizes. To sign up or to find out more, visit edmonsonchamber.com.
