Darren Doyle, [email protected]: Improvements are in the works at both county elementary schools since Kyrock and South Edmonson each received a $5,000 grant from the DART Foundation on Friday. The grants are awarded each year to applicants that are proactive in advancing youth education, primarily in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, also known as STEM grants. Kyrock Elementary said their plan for the grant will help advance their new Science Dimensions Program, science kits for each grade level, "Math Facts in a Flash" computer program, & four classroom iPads. South Elementary Principal Jamie Woosley said at their school, the funds will be used to purchase every third grade student a Kindle Fire tablet to be used for reading, science, and assessments.
Both schools expressed their sincere gratitude for the grants. "We are very appreciative to the Dart Foundation for being awarded this grant," said Shaun Stice, newly named principal at Kyrock. "It's going to allow us to take science in our classrooms to an entire new level with the science programs and kits that we'll be able to purchase." Principal Woosley shared the same thoughts. "We thank Dart so much for this generous gift," he said. "We are humbled by this grant and our students will benefit greatly as a result." Comments are closed.
