Members of our staff were faced with tough decisions today as they scrolled through the dozens of entries, trying to narrow down the 5 finalists. The pumpkins were judged on creativity, difficulty, type of art or decoration, and overall appearance. Finalist 1, Robert Lindsey, has a nice family of very detailed painted pumpkins. The straw hat adds a nice touch. Number 2 is Ashlee Jaggers, with Snoopy as the Red Baron. She and her family used a gourd for Snoopy's head and a pumpkin for the body. The house is decorated cardboard. 3 is from Candice Spencer, with a detailed carving of "Jasmine," from Disney's Aladdin. Number 4 is from Beth Hawkins, whose husband very carefully carved a scene from Sleepy Hollow. Lastly, is finalist number 5, Autumn Coulter, whose husband first free-hand drew their daughter's favorite, Mickey Mouse, then carved it. The contest was only open to individuals or families, but as an honorable mention, we want to share great picture of a pumpkin decorated as a bubble gum machine from Mrs. Kori Skaggs' 7th period Study Skills class. Great job! Remember, the winner gets $50 cash, so please vote above, (voting more than once won't be counted) and we'll announce the winner this Thursday! We'd like to thank our contest sponsor, Creekside Garden and Nursery, and we encourage you to visit them on Chalybeate Road.
